The group will participate in a typical Maori activity in Bountiful on August 24 at the home of Kainga Tupu. A Marae Style social gathering gath-ering will involve an all night visit, songfest, and talk session ses-sion led by a Maori chief. Coordinator of Cedar City arrangements for the visitors visit-ors is Dallin Gardner, who became acquainted with New Zealand and its people while serving a mission in that country for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While in this country the visitors vis-itors will see points of interest inter-est in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and BajaMexi-co. BajaMexi-co. They will be house guests of local families at each stopover. They will tour Zion and Grand Canyon National Parks on August 21 as guests of the SUSC International Students Club, and arrive in Milford about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 22. They will be introduced in-troduced to their Milford hosts and then spend the evening eve-ning In their home. On Monday, the swimming pool will be available to them during regular hours, and at 5:00 pjn. the Maoris and their host families will be hosted by the Milford City Council and Mayor Young, who have coordinated the Milford effort, to a dinner of Sloppy Joe's, hot dogs, and corn on the cob. Local talent will provide music during the dinner. At 8:00 p.m. the New Zea-landers Zea-landers will present their program in the gym and the public is invited to attend. There is no charge for the Milford showing. The next morning theyllclimb aboard a bus and be taken to Bountiful. Bounti-ful. Each visitor wil be presented pre-sented with a Milford Centennial Cen-tennial Dollar as a momento of their visit to Milford. The dollars were donated by the Milford Historical Society. The cultural exchange activity ac-tivity has been organized by Bill and Hinauri Tribole, formerly of Milford and now Bountiful residents. The public is invited to attend the program of fully costumed native dances and music to be presented at the new Milford gymnasium at 8:00 p.m. The young Maoris, ages 16 to 18, will come to Milford Mil-ford from Cedar City where they performed on August 20, and Disneyland where they performed on August 16. Their western states tour began on August 14 and ends there with their departure for New Zealand on Sept. 3. |
