Show We have no love for the Monday holidays on any count, but we especially dislike dis-like the so-called Veterans Day which replaced so many holidays that we've lost track. Unfortunately, the significance signifi-cance of Armistice Day was lost with the change, and the honor that used to go with serving your country along with It. -0- Many businesses who re- fuse to observe the congress -designated Veterans Day close on November 11, Armistice Arm-istice Day. Others, because of the lack of recognition, do not close at all. Some, looking for any excuse to close or figuring that it's better to close than to open and operate at a loss, close j both days. -0- j The consequence is that I veterans of all wars have 1 lost the recognition they deserve. de-serve. In fact, the situation j is so bad that young people j no longer want to serve their ! country nor do they as- j sociate any honor with those who fought and died for the folks back home. Sorry folks, but congressional congres-sional manipulation of national na-tional holidays bugs me - . and Veterans Day is the worst of the lot. Besides it fouled up the old political joke that, "If that so-and-so j is elected, there will be soldiers marching in the streets before the week Is out". It not only ruined the joke, it stopped the marching. march-ing. -0- To our knowledge, there will be no city-wide Halloween Hallo-ween party this year. A few private parties, and some churches plan their own parties earlier in the week. We've never subscribed to the theory of parties to keep the youngsters off the street, because we believe that Halloween Is a good time to let of f a little steam. . And we don't buy parties to keep the little trick-or-treaters from collecting their goodies especially in Milford because we think the older folks enjoy their coming as much as the kids do ' in making their rounds. However, we do believe that some civic organization is missing a bet in not sponsoring spon-soring a teenage andor adult costume ball. And If some organization is sponsoring such an affair, they sure missed out on a lot of free publicity by not telling the COUNTY NEWS. -0- Don't forget to exercise your voting privilege on Tuesday, November 4th. The next four years can be very decisive in Milford's future and the very best qualified people should be at the reins to make the right decisions. ' Also at stake are bond Issues Is-sues for water system Improvements Im-provements amounting to $340,000. $230,000 are for interest -free bonds that are difficult to beat. The $110,-000 $110,-000 Is for bonds limited to water improvement. We believe that both bonds issues are valid and will vote for Proposition No. 1 and Proposition No. 2. -0- The deer hunt ended Tuesday Tues-day and the pheasant hunt ' doesn't start until Saturday, 1 and since you've got nothing 1 better to do for the three 1 days in between, why don't you sit down and write your 1 legislators and let them know how you feel about gun legls- latlon. t With two attempts on 3 President Ford's life and 1 hundreds of threats, there are more and more bills in - the hopper promoting gun 8 control, e o s What seems amazlngtome Is that no legislator has thought of sponsoring a bill that would allow society to throw away the key when they a lock one of these nuts up. It's the same legislators y who sponsor gun legislation, who are quick to parole con-, con-, vlcted murderers. They're the champions of rehabilitation rehabilita-tion but they can't prove that rehabilitation has ever t changed a hardened crimi- nal. People who can be re-e re-e habilitated don't need It. e (Continued on Page 2) and yelled, "There's one for you fellers, I'm going after another!" HERE'S MORE ABOUT JUST BETWEEN -o- The best part of deer camp is sitting around the camp-fire camp-fire telling stories. Here's one Milt Pool told us the other day. A few years ago, according accord-ing to Milt, a local hunting party was camped in the local mountains. One young feller took off early while the rest of the camp was still eating breakfast. He just got a couple of hundred yards from the cabin cab-in when he run into an old mother bear with cubs. The old bear took off after aft-er him, and he headed for the cabin. Just a few feet from the cabin door, he tripped, and the bear went right past him and through the door with the late eaters. Undaunted, he quickly pulled the door closed and |
