Show Southern Utah To Get Representation On Parks Board Legislation increasing the size of the State Board of Parks and Recreation from five to seven members cleared its first hurdle, the Utah State Senate, this past week and is now on the floor of the House of Representatives. Representa-tives. The bill, as amended by State Senator Dixie Leavitt, (Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane and Washington counties) coun-ties) will place someone from Utah's fifth and sixth judical districts on the Board of Parks and Recreation. District five includes Beaver, Beav-er, Iron and Washington Counties, while the sixth district dis-trict includes Garfield and Kane counties. At present time, no one from these two southern Utah districts serve on the Board. The passage of this legislation legisla-tion would insure representation represen-tation from the Southern Utah area, where a large number of Utah's state parks and recreation areas are located. lo-cated. The State Board of Parks and Recreation governs, and is the policy-making body, for all of Utah's State Parks and Recreation areas. It was created within the State Department De-partment of Natural Resources. |
