These sixth graders spent a couple of hours poking around the News office last Thursday, finding out all about printing a newspaper. Then in the afternoon, the editor visited Mr. Limb's classroom and answered questions from the youngsters on almost all facets of the business. They were an attentive at-tentive and interested bunch and enjoyed by the News staff. HOUSING BECOMING PROBLEM: PEiillfps KIg Setting Up -Sulphurdole Up Fr Bid No one is ready to say the Milford 'boom' has begun, because we all know that drill rigs can move away as fast as they come. But certainly things are beginning to look as if some of the things Milfordites have been told for years and months are actually going to happen. Phillips Petroleum Company Com-pany began moving a huge drill rig on site in the Roosevelt Roose-velt Springs KGRA on which bids were opened last July. In this week's issue BLM is advertising for bids on the Sulphurdale KGRA, with the bid opening set for March 24. On the alunite front, one of Earth Sciences, Inc. drill rigs has hit a good flow of water and, we've had no negative neg-ative reports on that project. pro-ject. Lloyd Ferguson, Fillmore Fill-more District Manager of BLM, says he expects the environmental impact statement state-ment to be submitted in March. He couldn't say how long it would be tied up in Washington, but most are optimistic op-timistic since the operation is almost environmentally pure. Ferguson said that Phillips Phil-lips Petroleum had made application ap-plication for four geotherm-al geotherm-al wells; three at 2,000 -ft. depth and one for 6,000 ft. Got a house to rent? For the first time in many years, Milford has a surplus of houses for sale - but we 're (Continued on Page 6) handle the new construction as needed. The problem will be temporary housing. We don't want a tent city like Rock Springs, Wyo. The ' only solution, as we see it, is for those who have properties prop-erties that could be turned into rentals, to do so. We urge those planning trailer parks to get moving. Natural growth should make these projects profitable regardless regard-less of whether Milford achieves the tremendous growth projected in the next few years. -0- Stlll time to place your objection or comments with BLM. Most of the available rental property is already tied up by Bridg-er Bridg-er Oil Co. drilling crews. If Earth Sciences gets rolling in a few months, as It seems almost assured they will, Mllford's greatest need will be for rental property to take care of new people until they have time to orient themselves and build homes. There seems little doubt that there will be enough developers de-velopers and contractors to |
