Show By David R Horlacher BEOG OFFERS STUDENTS MONEY Virtually all post -high school Institutions offer financial fi-nancial assistance to qualified quali-fied students. A relatively new program Is sponsored by the Federal Government Is called the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant (BEOG). To be considered for this program, a student must never have previously attended at-tended a post -high school Institution, and the student and his parents must meet the financial need criteria outlined in the program. Any interested student can determine if he qualifies for BEOG by sitting down with his parents and filling out a simple financial statement. The form is then mailed to Washington D. C. for processing. pro-cessing. In about three or four weeks a document is mailed back to the student and his parents stating the level of financial need of the family based upon the information infor-mation entered on the financial finan-cial statement. The student takes this document doc-ument with him to school when he enters In the fall, where the school's financial aid office will determine the amount he is eligible to receive. re-ceive. The Federal Government Govern-ment is billed that amount, and the student receives a check for one -third of the total amount near the beginning be-ginning of each quarter of the school year to meet some of his educational expenses. These application forms will be available at the high school couselor's office approximately ap-proximately mid-February. There Is no deadline date associated as-sociated with BEOG, but applications ap-plications must be submitted either before or during the freshman year.
