Show dent -body and the community to find out how well the dress code is meeting the needs of the community. A parent committee may be organized if there Is enough interest. If you are Interested and would like to get involved, please contact Principal Horlacher at the high school and your name will be added David R Horlacher The Milford High School has two types of referrals; one for the dress code violations vio-lations and the other for discipline dis-cipline problems. The spirit of the dress code is to set a standard of personal appearance ap-pearance which will foster a pride for one's appearance, be acceptable to the community, com-munity, and reflect a pride and higher level of behavior to others outside our community. com-munity. If a student is living the spirit of the dress code, he or she will do better than the minimum or maximum guidelines set forth in the code. For example, a boy will get his hair cut or styled 12 inch or so shorter that the dress code asks for so that It will allow for growth and be obvious to other that he is complying wholeheartedly. What is wrong with being a "hundred percenter"? Several Sev-eral seem to find satisfaction in continually "riding the fence" or being a "borderline "border-line case". The referral Is set up with the idea of having students discipline themselves them-selves and thus avoid a possible pos-sible referral. To bring this about, teachers are asked to check students at a given time and refer those students to the office who are in vio- to the list. You will then be contacted when a committee is formed. ) The discipline referral system is setup to also cause students to learn self -discipline. A first referral to the office indicates that a teacher has tried several ways to help the particular student work out the problem prob-lem and has either been unsuccessful un-successful or the situation needs greater emphasis. A student is judged by his behavior, be-havior, not that of others. When a referral is sent to the office, written record is made and a counseling conference con-ference is held with the student stu-dent to review the circumstances circum-stances and possible consequences conse-quences if such behavior is not corrected. Parents are notified of the referral in an effort to first, Inform them of the circumstance and secondly, sec-ondly, to help us try to encourage en-courage the student to change his behavior and thus prevent pre-vent a second referral. A second referral results in a 3 to 5 day suspension from school and all school related activities. School work missed may not be made up. Student privileges may be restored upon re-ad-missiqn to school after a conference of parents, student stu-dent and principal has been held and the student commits himself to better behavior. The days suspended may double on a third referral during the year and progress worse if behavior is not improved. im-proved. The record is kept on file during the year and is destroyed at the end of the year if the student has kept himself out of trouble. This system produces change and causes the student stu-dent to evaluate himself and make a decision regarding his attitude and conduct. We ask the full support of the Milford community to help us enforce our rules and procedure and encourage our children to accept the responsibility re-sponsibility for their own actions. By doing this we are helping our children to mature ma-ture and develop into good citizens. lation. They are then checked by the principal who in turn contacts the parents and releases re-leases the student to leave the school and get the matter mat-ter corrected. Students are urged to hurry back as soon as possible since time absent ab-sent is unexcused and work missed may not be made up. They are checked when they return and readmitted to classes. We extend a thanks to those students who are complying willingly. A student dress code committee has been organized or-ganized and they are evaluating evalu-ating the present dress code.
