Show "STilIL $7,000 DOLLARS IS FREE IF COMMUNITY PULLS TOGETHER Will Milford have a Bl -centennial project pro-ject to submit to the Bi-centennlal Commission Com-mission this year? That question should be answered tonight (Thursday, Jan. 16) at 7:00 p.m. at the Milford Elementary School. As we submitted our previous projects last spring, we felt they were projects that the community would like to see completed. Many organizations and individuals had pledged their support of the local golf course. The Youth Committee had worked several years on their recreation projects for the young people. With the added monies from the Bi -centennial we could see a completion com-pletion of these without an added financial burden on the people. Much of what had already al-ready been spent could be used as matching match-ing funds. We were not so fortunate as some of the other communities who had similar projects okayed by the commission. But that is water under the bridge and we can't sit around licking our wounds , so we are ready with two more proposals to submit to the people of the community that we feel are worthy of approval. The first is an Historical Park area on Library Hill submitted by the Historical Society. This Park would be set aside to preserve some of the historical artifacts of our local history. Drawings and a discussion of this will be presented. Another proposal suggested by the Lady Lions is an outdoor, covered picnic area. This would have permanent per-manent picnic tables, a fireplace and cooking cook-ing area, a raised bandstand area, with plenty of open space for dancing and other recreational activities. A drawing and discussion dis-cussion of this will also be presented with all projects open for suggestions and recommendations rec-ommendations from the audience. We urge participation by all citizens of the community and especially all organizational organiza-tional officers. It isn't too often that we get the opportunity to take advantage of a $7,000 grant for Improvements to our city. But it is necessary to come with the matching funds and that's where the pinch comes. It is going to take the efforts of everyone to do this. If we aren't able to do so, we must give the other communities of the county a chance to use this money to submit additional addi-tional projects to what they have already approved by the commission. So, I guess it's a matter of putting our money where our mouth is and get the job done. See you at the meeting Thursday! Gladys Whittaker |
