Show 1-1 S INTERCHANGE FOR U-ll Kaparouifz-Alunfte Roads Gef Attention The Kaparowitz road, particularly par-ticularly that portion north from the proposed plant site to CannonvlUe, and the road from Utah 21 west ofMllford to the alunlte plant In Wah Wah Valley, were the chief topics of conversation at the State Road Commission Planning meeting in Beaver City last Thursday. Approximately 35 Interested Inter-ested representatives from CannonvlUe to Delta we re on hand to discuss the roads that needed attention. Comm. Clem Church, Panguitch, conducted the meeting with assistance from District 5 Engineer Alex Mansour, Dick Roberts, Steve Lawson, and Wendell Hackett. Laurl Holly, Town President Presi-dent of CannonvlUe, made a presentation for the Kaparowitz Kaparo-witz road. She showed the Commission how the proposed pro-posed route to the north would give access to some 300 building sites in Tropic, CannonvlUe, and Henrivllle, plus a possible 6000 sites in the valley encompassing the three towns In Bryce Valley. She argued that employees of the project should be encouraged en-couraged to live In Utah -not Arizona. The alunlte road for Earth Sciences, Inc. proposed mill has already received $25,000 In engineering this past summer sum-mer and now awaits the go-ahead go-ahead to build the plant before be-fore the next steps can be taken. The only other project pro-ject In Beaver County Is the Mlnersville-Mllford road now under construction. Parts of 1-15 also must be completed. Frank Law, Delta, proposed pro-posed that 1-70 be routed over US 50-6 from Sallna and from I-15 over U -21. The reception to this proposal was generally negative, since it would hurt all of Southern Utah except Delta. Comm. Thurman Eyre proposed a direct Interchange Inter-change off of 1-15 at Beaver to U-21. He said that with the Increased traffic with the alunlte and geothermal development In the west end of the county, the promised Interchange was needed. Comm. Harris supported this proposal and there were no objections. Both Council-men Council-men from Mllford also voiced agreement. Councilman Swain asked what plans were being made to avoid the bottleneck of additional traffic on Mil-ford's Mil-ford's Main and Center Streets. Mansour said a belt-loop belt-loop or bypass near Mllford was in the planning stages and would probably be implemented imple-mented as traffic rose. This would include alignment to the railroad track and possibly pos-sibly an overpass. Tom Torgerson, Panguitch Pan-guitch Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, proposed the State take over maintenance and operation of the Panguitch Lake -Cedar Breaks road. He said it was shorter to Bryce Canyon than U-14 which it parallels. Mansour asked which state highway could be dropped, U-14 or U-20, if this proposal were accepted. Editor Wilson, Mllford, and Councilman Rex Carter, Beaver, said they would object to U-20 being dropped from the state system. sys-tem. Also discussed was a new access route from Kanarra-vllle. |
