Show Spring fever or maybe its a bug that's going around, h"t saw Evelyn Wiseman and Sallie Rose cleaning up and planting flowers in the old empty building just north of the post office. Good work girl.!. o There are lots of other signs of spring that have been showing show-ing up lately most apparent is the cutting of so many of the huge old trees around town which though maybe warranted due to the danger of them falling on a building or causing other property damage in a high wind, will be sorely missed by those of us who have a soft spot in our hearts for big trees. Worse yet is that they offer a tremendous wind break and tend to raise the dust over the rooftops as it blows through tow.-:. o We suggest that those who have cut or plan to do so, consider con-sider a project of the Milford Youth Committee. They have trees for sale, Littleleaf Linden, Lin-den, purple plum, green ash, floyering crab and rumor has it that they will even pjlant them for you if you just ask. It is an effort to provide matching funds for the Sorority Soror-ity of a hundred dollars to put lights on the new baeball field But even if you don't like causes, charities or the like it's a good investment in Milford Mil-ford and the future. There's nothing worse than 110 in the shade and not a tree in sight. o Other indications of spring are the rash of accidents that aren't as likely with a few inches of snow on the ground. It all started when Scott Cook creamed in on a motor cycle recently, before the week was out, Fred Gillam's young son had a skinned up nose and etc. from a bicycle accident, in the same locality. Tuesday night Robin Hawkins and Debbie Bealer were thrown from a horse and received bruises and lacerations. Caused mostly by the exhuberanee of spring, and youngsters kicking up their heels. There are probably several sev-eral others, but these happened happen-ed within one block of my home. Actually, all the youngsters were lucky they are all back on their feet by now and when the scabs peel off will probably be none for the worse, even though each accident ac-cident could have injured the o.nes involved seriously. Sean Casey, who most of the time is confined to a very short leash near the shop, decided de-cided Tuesday to go home and play with young Jeff Jackson, his bosom buddy. Well we spent about an hour looking for him until he came back on his own why? Said he fcrgot to take his toy truck home for Jeff to play with. o Lettermen's day and the athletic banquet last night (Wednesday) at MHS. We were Invited but, alas, Wednesday Wed-nesday is paper day and allows al-lows no time for frivrolties As so often happens in Milford, Mil-ford, important events happen on Wednesday night. The worst possible time from a publicity standpoint, and definitely de-finitely from the editor's. Because of activities at the church and school, Wednesday is forced upon groups having sp'Aial events throughout the year. Publicity to help draw a crowd, or report the event, is always a week early or a week late due to the event taking place at press time. Most often we are unable to even report it ourselves. Sorry but that's how it is until those who monopolize most of the time give the others a break Think about it. |
