Show TIGERS BEAT BEAVER IN CLOSE CONTEST 60-57 The Tigers East County Rivals Riv-als went down to defeat for the second time this basketball season and for the fourth time out of six in all sports, for this 'school year to give the Tigers an easy superiority. But the Beavers didn't know they were going to be beat and they came to play ball, and play ball they did. with never more than a five point spread between the two teams throughout through-out the entire game. The officiating, which was the worst we've seen this year, though no worse for one team than the other called several technical fouls, including one on Coach Payne. Any of which could have changed the tide of the game but proved no advantage ad-vantage to either team. Several instances where a technical foul was called could have given one team five points and the ball out, were nullified when the foul shots were missed, miss-ed, and the score remained tight. Smith was high for the game with 33 points with Ogden sinking sink-ing 10 and White 9. Smith had seven fieldgoals and made 19 of 25 freethrows. Ogden was able to hit from outside for four fieldgoals and White picked up three. Milford drew first blood but trailed 12-13 at the quarter and the score was tied 25 all at the half. The final quarter was a cliff hanger with the coach's technical tech-nical called just after Beaver had tied the ballgame at 47-47 and Beaver was fouled in the act of shooting. This gave Beaver Beav-er three freethrows and the ball out with the score tied. But they were unable to do anything with this advantage and Milford got the ball and a technical was called on Beaver Beav-er with the score still 47 all. Milford was also unable to capitalize, but Smith finally hit one of his 19 freethrows to get the scoring started again and the game ended at 60-57 in favor of Milford. |
