Show MOTHER'S DAT IS 'JAM DAY' FOR MOUNTAIN STATES Once a year Mother makes a special kind of jam for the people at Mountain States Telephone. Tel-ephone. It's called "Mother's Day Telephone Traffic Jam." With so many folks wanting to talk to Mother on her day, the jam can get pretty sticky. All available MST operators will .be on duty thruout the Mother's Day week end to help customers complete their calls and otherwise lend assistance. Their efforts will complement the work of automatic routing equipment and spread the "jam" over the entire week end. Mother's Day is second only to Christmas for the number of long distance calls completed complet-ed by customers thruout Utah. The operator-handled long distance dis-tance calls this year are expected ex-pected to exceed 18,000 just on Sunday, May 14, alone. The telephone company has some special tips on how to complete Mother's Day calls quickly. "Call earlier in the day," advises Gerald Vickers, local manager for the company. com-pany. "The heaviest traffic is in the evening, and the lowest rates are in effect all day lang on Sunday anyway." "When possible, dial the call yourslef. That also speeds things up. If you don't know the number in a distant city, call the universal information number in that city ahead of time. Instructions in the front of the phone book tell you how you can get the number free of charge. "By calling earlier, having Mother's number ready, and dialing the call yourself, your chances will be better. If you do happen to run into a busy signal, be patient and call again later. After all, a lot of people have the same idea you do." |
