A, By Gladys Whittaker Wednesday evening was "Teacher Appreciation Night" at Milford Elementary School, and Mrs. Vera Bond, who ha been teaching Milford students for 39 years, was honored ai u Parent-Teacher Association reception re-ception and. tea. Special thanks i.nd appreciation to the teachers teach-ers was expressed by Mary Wiseman, P.-T. A. president. The program was under direction di-rection of Gladys Whittaker, who paid tribute to Mrs. Bond and introduced those participating, participat-ing, all former students of Mrs. Bond. Two members of her present class, Diana Christiansen and . Kim Brox, presented a dance number, followed by another group of Vickie Lamb's dancing danc-ing students, Chillie and Debbie Deb-bie Rose, Camille Lamb, Cindy Bolton, Shauna Banks, Rose-marie Rose-marie Davie, recent students of Mrs. Bond. As the program progressed Mrs. Bond recounted many happy events and experiences she had with those participating. participat-ing. Many are inspired to follow the teaching profession by an -example set before them by a special teacher. To Dr. Kent Myers one of those special teachers was Mrs. Bond. Mrs. Bond has always enjoyed en-joyed music and has participated partici-pated in many school and community functions as accompanist accom-panist and as organist in her church. Adele Mayer played a piano selection entitled "Born Free" as her tribute to Mrs. Bond for her encouragement to children to develop their talents and abilities. Teachers have many memorable memor-able experiences over the years with their students. To recall some of these experiences experi-ences to Mrs. Bond five of her former students recorded their experiences and they were played to Mrs. Bond to see if she. could recall who was relating re-lating the experience. Her memory was very sharp in re-, niembering Ken Elmer's wild west experiences in the first grade, the centennial year's activities ac-tivities Georgia Beth Smith related, re-lated, "the good old days" out at Reed Emma Griffiths recalled; re-called; the loving encouragement encourage-ment and appreciation of a picture pic-ture of a "smiling sun" recounted re-counted by Carol Roberts. As she recalls experiences to the children of her former students she could quickly remember th poem about Indians written by Barbara Mayer in" the second sec-ond grade. Mitchell Fisher, a former principal of Mrs. Bond and a co-worker for many years, gave a tribute to Mrs. Bond written by his wife, Beth Fisher. Three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Myers, Linda, Mary and Christine, all former students stu-dents of Mrs. Bond, sang "At the End of a Rainbow," accompanied ac-companied by Karen Gillins. Mrs. Bond's children grow up and they have children of their own, and Mrs. Bond takes them under her wing as she did their parents. Ray and Shir-leen Shir-leen Barnes and their three boys, Larry, Scott and Kevin, were a part of this first and second generation of students taught by Mrs. Bond. They presented a musical number for her. An expression of appreciation for the many years of service given by Mrs. Bond to the children was given by Donald Jones, member of the Board of Education. He recalled experiences exper-iences of his childhood when Mrs. Bond was his teacher. He presented her a gift on behalf of the Board of Education. A good time was had in viewing the "olden days." Pictures Pic-tures of the old Reed school house, where Mrs. Bond began her teaching career in 1924; the old Milford Elementary school where she began teaching in 1930 and has taught continuously continu-ously for the past 37 years; the mighty 1967 senior class at the second grade level when Mrs. Bond taught them; a picture pic-ture of the faculty in 1945 when Mitchcl Fisher was principal; prin-cipal; class pictures where we could view the older generation genera-tion in their childhood such as Kent Myers, LuDean Barnes, Richard Jefferson, Don Glenn, Lois Kirk, Betty Davis, Irene Carter, Earl Beard, Barbara Mayer, Mitch White, Max Stewart. Various pictures of Mrs. Bond's childhood, her baby picture, as a teenager and college col-lege girl were shown to her former students. Darrell Loosle, principal, paid the honor and respect of himself and that of her coworkers co-workers for her dedication and contribution to the school. P.-T. A. President Mary Wiseman presented a gift to Mrs. 'Bond on .behalf of the P.-T. P.-T. A. Mrs. Bond expressed her ap- preciation to the people for their help and consideration thruout the years, and related many happy and humorous experiences ex-periences to a standing ovation. ova-tion.
