Show FROM THE DESK OP G. STANFORD REES State Senator Representing Beaver County Friday afternoon after the close of the Senate session all bills on the board except those on the third reading calendar went into the sifting committee. commit-tee. Five senators are on this group and they bring out from day to day the bills to be considered. con-sidered. This is a good arrangement; ar-rangement; it enables the bills of importance to be considered. consid-ered. Bills to be brought out of sifting will include the three lemaining bills on re-organization of state government, the school bills, the retirement bills, and many others. I hope the Sunday Closing bills died in the sifting committee. The Senate Joint Resolution designed to abolish the constitutional consti-tutional umbrella over ' the Justice of Peace courts failed in the Senate after an interesting inter-esting voyage. This resolution would have placed on the ballot bal-lot the proposition of abolishing abolish-ing the Justice of Peace courts. I am sure that if it were up to the Legislature these courts would be abolished. abol-ished. I asked what we would use to replace them. This type of court rural Utah cannot be without. We may or may not like the J.P. courts, but they are the courts that serve the lank and file of the rural communities. It looks like you are going to vote on at least two issues you defeated last general election: elec-tion: Increased pay for Legislators; Legis-lators; and Annual sessions of the Legislature, one of which is a budget session. I voted pgainst both of these propositions proposi-tions but really feel it is up to the people to decide. Your representatives really should have more money for the time and expense involved. . We leave for the Capitol when it is still dark and return re-turn to camp after it is dark. Reminds me of the time I worked for the coal mines, but I love it! Keep in touch, Senator Rees. |
