Show BLM Finds People Want Wah Wall Kept The Same Approximately 40 people attended at-tended a meeting for the BLM Wah Wah Planning Unit last Thursday evening at the Mil-ford Mil-ford elementary school multipurpose multi-purpose room. Warren Rough of the Fillmore Fill-more district of the BLM f:.rst ou' lined the possible uses of the planning unit then a topography top-ography sketch including slides and maps oriented the group to the area. The meeting was then turned over to questio.ns and answers. It was noted that the only minerrl prcduction within thi unit at prrsent is fhat of Essex International's Milford Mine. They stated that o'her possible envelopments in the mining were potash deposits, fluorspar rnd the prospect of developing develop-ing the geo-thermo springs in the unit for electricity. There was an exchange between be-tween the cattlemen vs. rec-reationists rec-reationists on the value of stock Vs. big game, but overall most in attendarce felt there was room in the unit for all types of uses and none should be eliminated. There was some disagreement as to the value of chaining and resaeding and whether it warranted war-ranted the cost. Generally it was supporteed. The group asked that no laws or regulations regula-tions be made against recreation recrea-tion or off-road vehicles; opposed op-posed any type of subdivision; su' h as being done in the Beaver Beav-er Mountains; generally opposed indisciminate use of 1080 poison poi-son for predators and asked that no new roads be developed develop-ed in the area, with suggestion that some presently in use might be dropped. Asked that BLM lands remain open for pine nuts, hunting and just plain sightseeing but wanted to discourage others than local people from its use. Generally the group wanted the unit left pretty much the' way it is with each situation and change to stand on its own merit at the time of decision. |
