Show Effie Marshall Honored By Mothers Association J ?:i f - J w I ' Mrs Effie Marshall of Mi-: Mi-: nersville was honored at a special spe-cial Award Ceremony Program bv the Utah Mothers Asociation and American Mother Committee Commit-tee Inc. Saturday, April 22 at 2 30 pm. in the Assembly Hall, Temple Square, Salt Lake City. Mrs Marshall represented the Southern Region and was hon-J hon-J ored along with twelve other 0 nominated mothers from otheer , parts of the state. She was ac-iompanied ac-iompanied by her daughters ir. Mrs. Ruth Knight, Mrs. Rachel Hunt Mrs. Barbara Messinger, Cedar City, and Mrs. Phyllis ik Truman, Minersville. They were presented a 1,: certificate and corsage at the m ' ceremonies. ec: Effie Lucille Hutchings Mar-shall Mar-shall was bom February 12, 1891 in Beaver, to Sara Agnes Lebaron Hutchings and William Willard Hutchings, Jr. There were ten children in the fam-)D fam-)D ily, nine girls and one boy. ist Effie was the eighth girl. She id grew up in Beaver. Her mother 1 j. ran a hotel and she helped out tat Mrs. Effie Marshall in many ways. She went to school at the Beaver Elementary School and the Murdock Academy in Beaver. Beav-er. When she was 16 years old she went to Salt Lake to the LDS College for two years and then to the University of Utah and obtained her teaching certificate. cer-tificate. In 1912 she went to Minersville Miners-ville to teach school where she met and married Elmer H. Marshall in the Salt Lake Temple, Tem-ple, Oct. 1, 1913. They made their home in Minersville. They were the parents of nine children. chil-dren. Three of them were triplets. trip-lets. On August 20, 1950, her husband hus-band was killed in an automobile automo-bile accident and she was left to care for her family. She has been" very active in church and civic affairs. She was President of YWMIA, Pres. of Primary, Pres. of Relief Society, Teacher, Teach-er, organist, secretary of many church organizations, served a mission to East Central States and was Stake missionary. A President of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Pres. of American Ameri-can Legion Auxiliary, President Presi-dent of Literary Club, Republican Repub-lican party committee woman, helped on the beautification committee, worked in 4-H, participated par-ticipated in programs and dramas. Her children are: Howard H., Grandview, Wash., Phyllis Truman, Tru-man, Jeff H., Fay, and Ross, all of Minersville, Barbara Messinger, Ruth Knight, Rachel Rach-el Hunt, Cedar City; Aldene Janes, Kaysville, Utah. She has 39 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. At the age of 81 years, she is presently helping to care for four of her grandchildren who were left motherless two years ago. She is still very active in all phases of life. |
