Show The big winds Monday that everyone hoped would break the drouth, had at least Cecil Killam thinking that there was going to be moisture in with all the dust and wind. He called Monday to tell us the drouth was finally broken at about 3:30 p.m., he said he could count six drops of rain on his window. We suggested that he check his neighbor's sprinkler to see if the wind was carrying a few drops over but later checking with the U. S. Weather Service showed a trace, though unmeasurable amount of rain on Monday. Seriously though, even though we're still able to joke about it, no one hesitates to look at each cloud to see if it might carry a little moisture. May 31st is a date to chalk up on your calendar as an important im-portant one for Beaver County and not because it's the day ths Board of Equalization convenes. con-venes. It has been set as the date for a public hearing to again discuss the zoning of Pine Creek. The Planning Commission has again recommended that the interchange be rezoned to Hiway Service. The rest of Beaver County must follow their lead and make a like recommendation rec-ommendation to all of the' Commissioners. Beaver County can no longer long-er afford to turn away (nor could it ever) the jobs, added business through free enterprise, enter-prise, and last but not least, the revenue derived from the property taxes and sales taxes which development of the area will bring to us. Milford City lost over $100,-000 $100,-000 in assessed valuation last year other losses in the county have hurt. Even though the State Tax Assessor has been in town, trying to make up for this loss, by sticking it on those of us left in business, it is not enough, we cannot afford to thumb our nose at Pine Creek any longer. Even though there is some rumor that the Commissioners will look on this rezoning with more favor this time, because of the rezoning being done by Millard County, just across the county line, don't let this breed apathy among you. Tell it like it is and tell it to the Commissioners. Com-missioners. o An election year is upon us and a notice in this issue tell the filing dates and the offices to be elected. The County Commission has redistricted the county, and a cicmifirant phiinpp has bppn made, to conform with the supreme su-preme court and legislative rulings which set guidelines foi the one man, one vote edict. The Commissioners have complied com-plied with this by holding the spread from the largest district to the smallest district to under three percent. In Milford, there are only three voters difference. Check the County Commission Commis-sion story for the voting districts dis-tricts and page two for filing dates for the Primary Election. o The Ping Pong Tourney is over and the Wilson household managed one trophy even if the old man did get beat out in the second round. Steven took a third place in the junior division. It's been kinda quiet around the News office this week without with-out the table going full tilt from the time school's out until un-til supper. But until next year we'll leave the ping pong tournaments for the bars and school, to wheel and deal. Lu-Dean Lu-Dean at Caspers says he is starting a big one tonight. Ike now has a table set up at the B & J, and there are plenty of outlets for the ping pong enthusiasts en-thusiasts besides it's baseball base-ball weather. |
