Show FISHING SHOULD BE 'GOOD' FOR OPENER Old-timers eyeing the weather, the melting snow-pack, snow-pack, the fat and sassy trout breaking water, plus the new facilities installed thruout the state, opine that Utah fishing should be tops thruout the lengthy season opening open-ing May 30th and continuing thru Nov. 30. The mammoth new Lake Powell Pow-ell on the Colorado River behind be-hind Glen Canyon Dam is filling fill-ing nicely after early season water releases. But Utah has hundreds of "old fishing holes" ranging from glacial lakes in the High Uintas primitive arra reached only by packhorse, to pleasant, well-stocked reservoirs close to major roads and communities. com-munities. Fishing hours daily are from 4 a. m. to 9 p. m. Prospects in local waters, as listed by the Utah Fish and Game Commission: Minersville Reservoir A year round water that is noted for producing large rainbows Fishing Fish-ing has been only "fair" this year, primarily a result of bad weather and a "new crop" of trout maturing. Anglers can expect ex-pect to take occasional large trout, 2 to 8 pounds, with fish ing picking up as the Sfason progresses. An occasional 16-in 16-in brown or brook can be expected. ex-pected. Puffers, Middle Kents and Anderson Meadow Lakes A late spring has prevented survey sur-vey of these waters, and predictions predic-tions are based on limited data. Puffer's should produce 10 to 20 inch rainbows and a few brook trout; Middle Kent's may suffer severe winterkill, and Anderson Meadow should be good fishing in 1964. Three Creeks and LeBaron Reservoirs Catchable rainbows will be stocked in Three Creeks on a put-and-take basis only. LeBaron was drained in 1963 in preparation for reconstruction of the dam in 1964. Little Reservoir To be heavily heav-ily stocked and will be good fishing this year. |
