Show DEER HUNTERS WILL USE PLASTIC TAG: FISH LICENSES READY APRIL 10 .:houW do much to ease the worries of sportsmen and con-rc-vation officers alike. Tag go on sale next week with the 1962 issue of hunting, fishing and combination licenses. li-censes. The official 1961 waterfowl harvest figures released by lhe department of fish and game this week, confirmed the observations of most hunters. Among other things, the report re-port showed that the take of all types of ducks and geese has dropped to its lowest point in about seven years. Ducks taken last year numbered num-bered 116,636, a little more than half of the total harvest of the 1960 season. Snow geese in the bag dropped by 65 in final analysis while the number num-ber of Canada geese taken by hunters remained nearly the same as in the year previous. Due to lack of targets, fewer waterfowl hunters took to the blinds, and this, to some degree explains the reduced harvest Hunters last year numbered 18,713, a marked decrease from the 23,243 that invaded the rivers ri-vers and marshes the proceeding proceed-ing season. For his efforts, the average hunter returned from each outing out-ing with 1.87 ducks or geese, considerably less than was experienced ex-perienced during the 1960 season. sea-son. Department spokesmen report that the outlook this year is for better breeding conditions, at least here in Utah. Most drainages appear to have ample snow pack to insure adequate marshes through the nesting season. They cautioned however, a-gainst a-gainst undue optimism, pointing point-ing to the fact that the water table is still extremely low in most key duck producing areas of Canada. Sportsmen across the country were warned this week to use caution when making down payments on hunting trips of accepting checks from an alleged al-leged Wyoming outfitter named Frank Guest. This man also operates using aliases of Francis Fran-cis Guest or Hub Guest. With the use of false credentials creden-tials this man has accepted funds under this pretense for several years. He is known to operate throughout the western States, including Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and California. Utah's 1962 fish and game license issue is now being mailed mail-ed to dispensing asncies over the State. They will be in the hands of all qualified license a.per.t; by April 10. So announced the department depart-ment of fish and game today in reminding sportsmen that a proper 1962 license must be visibly displayed while afield beginning April 16. The department noted that both the license fee and the license year are set by legislative legis-lative decree. Thus, cost of the various licenses issued remain the same, as does the license year beginning April 16 one year to April 15 the following. Only major change sportsmen sports-men will note this year is the new type deer tag, a plasticized paper affair with "punch outs" to be used in describing the big game kill. Purchasers of 1962 licenses will again note the following words regarding trespass on private lands, "This license does not authorize you to trespass on private property, whether posted or not, without with-out the permission of those in control thereof." Starting with the 1962 hunting season, Utah deer hunters hun-ters will have a new and easier eas-ier method of tagging their animals. The new tags are of plastic, reinforced paper and are free of the many mechanical mechan-ical difficulties which characterized charac-terized the old metal tag. Due to the simplicity of this new tag, department of fish and game personnel stress that all regulations will be strictly enforced. 1. The tag should be placed in the plastic holder with the license. It is illegal to hunt deer without both the tag and the regular license in possession posses-sion of the hunter. 2. The animal is to be tagged tag-ged at the time and place of kill. To tag the deer, first detach de-tach the tag from the stub and attach it to the hock of the animal. The animal is not considered tagged unless the tag has been torn from the stub. 3. At the same time, and be fore moving the animal, holes must be punched in the tag to denote the date of kill, the sex, and antler point. These three steps will take less than one minute, and Instructions J9JJ UTAH EEK TAB 2 2 5 Q Q 1 , 1. POLE- AHO PLACE IW PECULAH i IT 19 UNLAWFUL TO TPA-HSP"PT DEER PKOU PLACE.
