Show Social Security Official Plans Beaver Visit "Why hasn't my first social security se-curity check arrived? Why does it take so long?" is a query from many individuals who have filed claims for old-age and survivors insurance benefits, says Kesler T. Powell, district manager of the Prove Social Security office. Mr. Powell explained that, while government frequently is accused of the proverbial red tape (any delay de-lay is considered such), a certain minimum of time is required to ' process a claim for benefits. He stated that his office frequently makes awards which, over a period of time, may represent $30,000 or more in benefits and, when such j large sums are involved, the Social Security Administration must be careful and thorough in making sure that the individuals are entitled en-titled to the payments. "What I'm leading up to," says Mr. Powell, "is that anyone planning plan-ning to file for social security benefits must expect the social security se-curity office to take a reasonable length of time to pay their claim. But," he added, "each person can help considerably to reduce the time if he inquires in advance of filing and brings along evidence to establish his claim." A representative of the Social Security Administration will be in Beaver Wednesday, September 3, at 2 p.m. at the postoffice. county, serying there until retirement retire-ment in 1953. Since that time he had been an agricultural consultant consult-ant for Geneva Steel Co., a position he held at the time of his death. |
