Show Edna Thompson Mecham Services Held Tuesday Funeral services for Mrs. Edna C. Thompson Mecham, 83, were conducted Tuesday at 2 o'clock in the Minersville LDS Ward Chapel. Mrs. Mecham died August 22 in the Beaver County Hospital at Milford Mil-ford of a cerebral hemorrhage after af-ter being ill for a period of more than six months. The services were as follows: Invocation, Randall Banks; quartet, quar-tet, Obra Myers, Lee Marshall, Milton Mil-ton Albrecht and Harold Baker, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Lee Marshal. Obituary and tribute, Mrs. Shirley Shir-ley Hollingshead. Duet, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," Mrs. Sylvia Davis and Mrs. Vivian Marshall, accompanied accompa-nied by Mrs. Phyllis Truman. Talk, Charles K. Jameson. Quartet, "Oh My Father." Benediction, Truman Rollins. The grave in -the Minersville cemetery was dedicated by Sherman Sher-man Carter. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Ward, Val, Leland, Norman, and Leon Thompson, and Lowell Fotheringham. Mrs. Mecham was born December Decem-ber 14, 1875, in Minersville to Wm. Jenkins and Mary Lightner Carter. She was married to Ward Patterson' Patter-son' Thompson July 20, 1896, at Minersville, the marriage later being be-ing solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Thompson died in October, 1912. Seven children were born of this union, six of whom survive. They are: Earl Thompson, Milford; Mrs. Linda Mecham and Mrs. Lula Waters, Springville; Clinton Thompson, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Ora Fotheringham Foth-eringham and Harry Thompson, Minersville. There are 29 grandchildren, grand-children, 60 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers and sisters are: Hayward, Horace, and Guy Carter, all of Minersville, and Mrs. Nellie Osborne and Mrs. Hazel Young, Salt Lake City. i Mrs. Thompson was married to Ephraim W. Mecham January 7, 1918, in Salt Lake City. He passed away February 12, 1954. A period of their marriage was spent in Upalco, Duchesne County when Mrs. Mecham was in her 60s. Despite De-spite her age, she responded to a visiting teaching call and, since her district covered an area of five miles, she rode a horse this distance. During her early life, she was an excellent horsewoman, able to ride side-saddle and changing to riding astride with the advancing times. An outdoor enthusiast, she also was widely known for her marksmanship with the .22 rifle and often went rabbit hunting with her husband. During her early married life, she delivered two babies and always al-ways was on call to the homes of her daughters and relatives during their confinements. v She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints in her younger years and held the positions of 1st and 2nd counselors in the Relief Society Soci-ety at - different times. She also served as a visiting teacher in Minersville for a number of years. The children of her second husband hus-band have been noted for their devotion de-votion to her. They are: Clarence and Ernest Mecham, Mrs. Eva Earnshaw, and Mrs. Leona Spencer, Spen-cer, Salt Lake City; Dean Mecham, Vernal; and Leslie Mecham, Springville. |
