Show THIS WEEK IN lv MINERSVILLE By EMILY GILLINS Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gillins are parents of their fifth child, a son born Jan. 31 in the Iron County Hospital, weighing 7 1 lbs., 4 oz Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Miles of Whittier, Calif., became par-ents par-ents of their third child, also a son, weighing 6 lbs, born Feb- 3. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gillins of Ogden welcomed their third child, a boy, last week. 9 Mrs. Alba Gillins now has 30 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Mrs. Edna Baker was hostess at a birthday dinner in honor of her husband, Bill, on Monday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. William Hutchings of Beaver, Mrs. Effie Marshall, and Mrs. Marie Rollins. Mrs. Orilla Hammond accompanied accom-panied her brother, Kay Lamb, from Pioche to visit Mrs- Ilene Gray and Mrs. Lucille Lamb and new baby. Mr. Eyre hauled ore from the Beaver County mines, including the Moscow, Anvil, Hoosier Boy and others, working from daylight day-light to dark at 75c to $1 a day. For eight years he hauled freight from Milford to Dela-mar, Dela-mar, Pioche ,and Panaca, with 12 -days required to make the trip in good weather. For entertainment, in the early days of this community, Joey recalls dancing quadrilles in a hall located where the Del-mer Del-mer Gray residence now stands, and at the Lilly Roberts home. The orchestra was usually Pete Richards on the violin, George Jameson on the guitar, and John Fotheringham at the organ. assisting at the home of Norman Nor-man Gillins, and expects to go to Whittier to be at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Miles. The drive for birthday pennies pen-nies for the Primary Children's Hospital will begin Feb. 11. The Home Builders have completed com-pleted plans for the "Daddy Snowball" party to be held on Feb. 7 in the recreation hall oi the church. A plate lunch will be served children and fathers and a program and dancing are in the agenda. Those in charge are Mrs. Donna Boyter, Mrs-Erma Mrs-Erma Eyre, Mrs. Mary Gillins, Mrs. Bonnie Myers and Mrs. Jane Griffiths. The traditional Lincoln Day banquet will be held in Minersville Miners-ville on Feb. 14 under direction of the Republican Central Committee, Com-mittee, of which Mrs. Frieda Wood is chairman. The banquet ban-quet will be served by the Cemetery Committee in the recreation hall of the Church, and the public is invited. Tickets Tick-ets may be obtained from Mrs. Marybelle Eyre, president of the Young Women's Republican Club. A program will be presented, pre-sented, featuring Robert L. Gardner of Cedar City as the speaker. I Mr. and Mrs- Kay Lamb are parents of their second child, a QVz lb son born Jan 23 at the Beaver County Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Bonn and Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Marshall visited Mr. and Mrs. Clair Gillins Gil-lins and enjoyed a delicious chicken dinner. Mrs. LuDean Jeffries and girl friend of Salt Lake visited her parents, Mr. -and Mrs. Harry Thompson, during the week- Mrs. Jessie Myers, chairman chair-man of the polio drive, announced an-nounced that Mrs. Ilene Gray who made arrangements for the Marching Mothers, turned in $110.07 to the fund. Mothers Moth-ers who participated were Mrs. Renee Eyre, Mrs. Yvonne Gressman, Mrs. Elma Blackburn, Black-burn, Mrs. Sue Davis, Mrs. Helen Davis, Mrs. June Pearson, Pear-son, Mrs- Beulah Wood, Mrs. Lorraine Myers, Mrs. Laneele Potter, Mrs. Merle Potter and Mrs. Janet Walker. Total proceeds pro-ceeds from the Minersville polio drive will be announced next week. J, H. Eyre, known to Minersville Miners-ville residents as "Joey" Eyre, observed his 80th birth anniversary anni-versary on Jan. 2. He was born at Minersville in 1877, a son of Edwin and Milinva Myers Eyre. Mr. Eyre has lived almost all his life in this community, engaging in farming, freighting and mining. He married Lulu Bird in the St. George Temple in 1877, and nine children were born to them, foul' of whom are living: |
