Show 6B Signpost Tuesday, September 23, 1986 Diet (cont'd from page 4) Georgia Lauritzen, Utah State University Extension nutrition specialist, says dietitians throughout the country have come out against Fit for Life. She says the authors have come up with an unfounded theory of wrong food combinations being the cause of weight gain. They make the claim that milk and dairy products are not good sources of calcium, a claim that is also scientifically unfounded, Lauritzen says. Why do we keep buying these books? "Most people aren't very interested in hearing dietitians talk about the four food groups and how you need to burn more calories than you consume," says USU dietitian Kathe Gabel. People also aren't interested in hearing that flying saucers are really weather balloons or swamp gas. Fashion (cont'd from page 5) Year of sophisticated Although these looks may originate as pieces, this is not a "piece-y" odds-and-ends year. Sweater separates are matched, "tailored" and narrow on the body. All of this, however, doesn't imply that the classic jacket should be relegated to the back of the closet. It may be one of the handiest fashion items this fall an outer layer to solve the season's dichotomy of long or short lengths for skirts. Fitted jackets The difference now comes in a new proportionlonger, slightly fitted, a bit narrowed in at the waist with a good looking shoulderline. So, go pull it out from captivity, slip it on, and wrap a wide textured belt around its waist. Wide belts Wide belts (an inch or more) prevail heavily this season and are an easy and excellent way of updating many of last years' pieces. Texture The high-impact look of belts, purses and other accessories appears through texture, especially in animal skin crocodile, alligator, etc. Suede and leather are also common. Metal accessories In jewelry, metal pieces (gold and much more silver) take a high degree of precedence over the plastic, wooden or colorfully painted ones that were so popular not too long ago. The days of pearls and diamonds galore and chandelier earrings have been replaced by sleeker, stronger jewelry items gold or silver neckbands, earring hoops and big cuff bracelets. Jewelry pieces also emphasize interesting shapes and textures. (Speaking of texture, tortoise shell seems to (see STYLES on page 7) ! r) imHmry-' " 1 ' n i .. .- -, V, H 1 ' f - - - - v- -v jr- ' - - j i k Vr' ' Pv Pi .- : v ; i - . . : f v L - . 1 5 w .y ' 0. 0 J ' s li.
