He will function as the graphic artist, showcasing a weekly comic strip and contributing his editorial comments through drawings and written copy. Professor Periwinkle was the first comic strip character that Christenson submitted to the Hawthorne Elementary Newsletter when he was a second grader. Working on the Signpost staff during this school year will be the "second time around" for Michael Christenson. And, like the words in the song, "it's more comfortable." The first time around, he edited text and sold advertising for the paper. He is taking the opportunity to "poke a little fun at WSC campus life and its idiosyn-cracies that make it so much fun and such an interesting place," he said. Christenson started drawing his most recent cartoon figures during the 1986 summer quarter and also illustrated the opinions found on the editorial page. He emphasized the fact that "this isn't work for me at all, it's just fun." The characters that make up the comic strip include Webe, who is a "reflection of myself. All cartoonists illustrate partial biographies of themselves." He portrays Webe as a ball of frustrations and anxieties all rolled into one being called a freshman. Then there is Rad, Webe's roommate a party animal; Lance, a friend majoring in fine arts; and a girl friend and several sports-minded friends round out the roster. From time immemorial, Christenson's notebooks have been covered with doodles and scribbles, but he is also talented in several other areas as well. He has done illustrative modeling in several magazines, and is most notably seen as the puppeteer on the cover of the 1982 Family Home Evening manual published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Teaching and performing magic and mime on a professional level is another of his specialties, and he has taken his talents nation-wide and into Europe, as well as to Brazil, when his father served as mission president in that country for the LDS Church. Christenson's resume includes experiences as head mime artist at Davis High School and Lagoon Amusement Park, with spotlights in the first MUSIC USA productions there. He also held the position of entertainment director at the 49th Street Galleria. Present plans find him working with children and patrons of the Davis County Library System and finishing his bachelor's degree in English. Catch his comic strip on the next page and enjoy his art work throughout both sections of the paper. Graphically, he'll have a lot to say this school year. All in all, Christenson's "second time around" at the Signpost should prove educational and entertaining to the students, faculty and administration oL-Weber State College. . J) Students ! .
