Nielsen chosen MWAC volleyball player of the week Karen Nielsen, a Weber State volleyball player, was named Mountain West Athletic Conference player of the week. In the two conference games played on Thursday and Saturday Nielsen had a 30 percent hitting average, 30 kills, five set assists, two solo blocks, nine block assists and three service aces. Nielsen is the first Weber State volleyball player to be named player of the week. Weber dropped both of their games this weekend. The first game was played in Portland, Oregon, against the first place team in the MWAC. It took five games for Portland to finally come out on top. The scores were 10-15, 15-4, 15-8, 4-15, and 15-2. Saturday the Wildcats Boise over Weber Offensively Boise and Weber were exactly even at 414 yards in total offense. Weber was just short of Boise in time of possession by three minutes. The main differences of the game were the fumbles and interceptions that seemed to plague Weber. Five out of six turnovers led directly to Boise State scores. The Wildcats' conference record has drop- traveled to Boise to play the Broncos in another conference game. Weber dropped the game 10-15, 15-11, 15-4, 9-15, and 15-7. Coach Ted Campoc was disappointed in the losses. He said, "Those games were tough to lose. Our team did play a lot stronger against Portland and Boise than we did when we played them at home. We can still make it to the conference playoffs. Our team has been showing alot of maturity in their play. Weber will play three games next week. On Thursday Oct 28, they will be in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah; Friday and Saturday the 'Cats will be back at Wildcat Gym with games against Idaho and Eastern Washington. continued from pg.13 ped to 0-3 and it is evident that they are definitely out of the conference race. The Wildcats will be at home this Saturday against Idaho State in the Homecoming game. by Ron Davis Staff Reporter Weber State's Farley Gerber showed how he can run with the best of them as he placed fifth in the six team BYUNike Autumn Classic Invitational Saturday in Provo. The team title went to visiting UCLA, followed by host BYU, Idaho State, Weber State, Utah State and Utah. Gerber's time of 27:52 was only four seconds behind UCLA's top finisher. Former BYU great Doug Padilla won the race with 27:26. The first school finisher was BYU's Ed Eyestone, followed by ISU's Greg Burrell, UCLA's Steve Mc-Cormack and Gerber. The Wildcats other top finishers were Dave Griffin, who finished 22nd with 29:11; Chris Mecek was 27th with a time of 29:37; and Henry Burkhardt was 30th with a 29:57 time. Becky Bjorn, of the women's "team was the Wildcat's top finisher in the Mountain West Athletic Conference cross country championships in Portland Saturday. She placed 19th. Idaho finished with 26 points, followed by Montana State with 59, Montana had 60, Idaho State was at 120, Weber State had 140, Eastern Washington had 163, and Boise State had 217.
