Show Hurricane High School Sweetheart Ball Rated One of Best In History of Institution HURRICANE, Utah.--One of the most outstanding and successful events on the social calendar of the Hurricane high school was the Sweetheart Ball, sponsored by the student paper staff. Each of the four classes chose one of its most charming girls to contest for the title of "Sweetheart of Hurricane High". Miss Venus Jolley, candidate of the freshman class, won the coveted cov-eted honor and was crowned officially of-ficially during the dance, before a large and admiring audience. Other candidates were: Miss Cnarlcne Twcedie, of tho sophomore sopho-more class; Miss Mary Lyn Woodbury, Wood-bury, junior class; and Miss Gwyn Bradshaw, senior class. Instead of the usual style of voting, War Stamps and Bonds were sold and immense interest was shown throughout the hotly-contested hotly-contested two-week race. The goal of $1000.00, as originally planned, far surpassed all expectations expecta-tions and rose to a final count of $8729.30 sold to students, townspeople towns-people and interested supporters from neighboring communities. This makes an average of $23.00 per student. To Owen Hall, faculty adviser and originator of the plan of .wiling .wil-ing Stamp and Bond voles; to Clark S. Webb, chairman of the Ball and editor of the student paper; to his committee, and to the enthusiastically-working student stu-dent body goes a sincere vote of appreciation for their great accomplishment. |
