Show Men In Non-Essential Occupations Urged To Contact U.S.E. Office The St. George office of the United States Employment service has a complete file of essential occupations oc-cupations and available positions to which to refer men planning to leave "non-essential" occupations, occupa-tions, Charles E. Pickett, district manager, said today. The office is in the Pickett building. "The U. S. Employment service is carrying out the War Man-power Man-power commission program of channeling all manpower jnto essential es-sential war industry," Mr. Pickett explained. "We are attempting to do this with as little dislocation as possible since most war industry in-dustry areas are already overcrowded over-crowded and an in-migration of workers would only accentuate the problem. "However, there are many positions posi-tions which must be filled and our office will be glad to discuss available avail-able opportunities with men now in the non-deferrable group. We are concerned with filling the needs of those industries having top priorities in the manpower pool and also fitting the worker (Continued on page five) Employment Data (Continued from first page) to the war skill for which he is best suited." Mr. Pickett said numerous training opportunities -for war skills are also available and complete com-plete information may be obtained from the U. S. Employment offices. "Many war industries have in-plant in-plant programs where a man can train as he works," he said. "In other instances, refresher courses are offered and in still others, short pre-employment courses will prepare the worker for his essential es-sential war job." Mr. Pickett advised persons now engaged in agriculture or other essential war jobs from attempting attempt-ing to transfer, however. "We are primarily concerned with shifting available manpower and woman power from non-essential occupations to war jobs," he said. "It will accomplish no purpose for a worker to leave one war job to take another unless un-less such a change will further utilize his or her abilities. Stay with your job or consult the U. S. Employment service office before changing if you are now in essential es-sential war work." |
