Show I Born, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cottam, May 2. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Empey, daughter Betty, and son; Clair, of Provo, visited in St. George Saturday Sat-urday and Sunday. Mr. Empey is at present NYA area director for Utah, and located at Provo. Their daughter, Alice who was Injured in a campus accident at ' the "Y" early in February is reported re-ported sufficiently improved to be back in school at the Brigham Young university. The Hostess Sewing Circle held their last Friday's social at the home of Mrs. Duke Sutton, honoring hon-oring their hostess with a gift of 15 assorted towels. After spending spend-ing the afternoon sewing, refreshments re-freshments were served to the ten guests. Mr. and Mrs. Neal Lundberg, Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Milne and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Nelson attended the Lions club zone meeting held last Saturday night at Ruby's Inn at which Aura Hatch, district governor was present. The group took two boxes of sweet peas and roses with them, for table decorations. dec-orations. These were quite a contrast con-trast to the snow banks near the lodge. . Mr. and Mrs. Orval Hafen returned re-turned Friday from Provo where they had spent ten days visiting and on business. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holland and family went to Kelso, Calif., on Sunday to visit Mr. Holland's brother. He reports lots of activity ac-tivity at Las Vegas with railroads rail-roads running to capacity. They returned on Tuesday. 8 ifc Mrs. Al Davis of Pioche is here visiting her mother, Mrs. Roxie Romney. Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Lombardi are entertaining at dinner this (Thursday) evening honoring Mr. and Mrs. Earl French and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Whicker who are moving to Salt Lake City, to accept ac-cept employment with the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain Express Co. They have been Conyes Freight Co., employees em-ployees and have resided in St. George for two years. Mrs. Edward Brooks underwent an appendectomy at the local hospital hos-pital May 1. Discharges from the hospital during the past week include Reid Hunt, May 1; Mrs. Clarence Snow and baby girl, May 2; Mrs. Earl Stringham and baby girl and Mrs. Ronald Cottam and baby girl, both on May 4. Eddie LeRoy Cluff left last week for employment in Las Vegas. Mrs. Charles Walker has been in the local hospital since May 2 for medical treatment. & Wayne Morgan, recently elected president of the U S. A. C. student stu-dent body of Logan visited in St. George last Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Welker on his return re-turn from a conference in Los Angeles. Mr. Morgan is from Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Whitehead entertained the Wednesday Night Bridge club, May 7. Following dinner at the Arrowhead hotel the guests assembled at the Whitehead home where Mrs. E. W. Simmons scored honors for the women and Joseph Milne for the men. Mr. and Mrs. James Abbott of Bunkerville spent Sunday in St. George attending the marriage of their granddaughter, Maxine Pendleton to Grant Brooks. Also present were the bride's paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Lune, her aunt, Mrs. Christina Naegle and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stucki all of Cedar City. Miss Florence Prince of New Harmony was a house guest over the week-end of Miss Marie Knell. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney Jensen of Salt Lake City motored to St. George to visit over the weekend week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moroni Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Seegmiller. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Mathis, Mrs. Lena Crosby and Mrs. Jed Shumway left Saturday for Prince where they attended the Sunday birthday celebration of Mr. Mathis' brother, Henry, who was 80 on that day. Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Gardner who left earlier in the week for Salt Lake City joined them for the event. Henry Mathis was a St. George pioneer. "That Night In Rio," Wads-worth Wads-worth Theatre, Saturday through Tuesday. It's a Gay, Glamorous Musical you'll really enjoy. m-8c. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Harper left Wednesday evening to spend several sev-eral days visiting in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Shumway and two children, and Mrs. Shum-way's Shum-way's mother, Mrs. Frank Johnson spent Saturday visiting in St. George with Mr. Shumway's cousins, Jed Shumway and Richard Rich-ard Shumway, enroute home from Salt Lake City where they had been for mastoid surgery for one of their small daughters. Miss Gertrude Frehner left Saturday Sat-urday for Littlefield where she will visit relatives until May 6 when she returns to accept a position posi-tion with the Soil Conservation. She resigned recently from the employment of Farm Security administration ad-ministration where she has been employed the past four years. -JS- w -it-Alice and Mary Alice Bring-hurst Bring-hurst of St. George visited relatives rela-tives in Toquerville over the weekend. week-end. George J. Miles and son Richard, Rich-ard, arrived Monday evening from Centerville to attend the funeral fun-eral services of Mrs. George E. Miles. Mr. Miles is an instructor at the Weber county high school. His brother, Dr. Homy J. Miles arrived by airplane Tuesday from Urbana. 111., where he is instructor in-structor in the Illinois State University. Uni-versity. He has recently completed com-pleted assembling material for a textbook in mathematics which will be off the press shortly. Clinton Fuller, a son-in-lnw of Mr. Miles, arrived from Las Vegas j Monday afternoon, returning to: his employment Wednesday eve-' ning following the funeral serv- i ices. A daughter.
