Show Birthday Anniversary Honors Pioneer of 1860 BUNKER VILLE, Nevada. Mrs. Mary Ann Hafen celebrated her eighty-seventh birthday anniversary annivers-ary on May 5, at her home in Bunkerville. Mary Ann Hafen is a pioneer of 1860. She was born in Robenback, Switzerland on May 5, 1854, and came to America when she was a child of six. Her parents, Samuel and Mag-dalena Mag-dalena Stettler Stucki came to America as converts to the L. D. S. church and came from Missouri to Salt Lake City with handcarts. In the fall of 1861 she came with her father and his family to Santa Clara with a group of Swiss people who were sent to help (Continued on page four) Pioneer's Birthday (Continued from first page) settle Utah's Dixie. She did all I he things that young pioneer Kirls did, from helping in the fields to making hats of wheat straw for the family and spinning and weaving her own clothes. On August 4, 1873, she was married to John Reber as his second sec-ond wife and one week later was widowed by his death when he was killed by a team of run-away horses. On November 24, 1873, she was married to John G. Ilafen, again as a second wife and became the mother of seven children, five of whom are still living. She has 44 living grandchildren grand-children and 60 living greatgrandchildren. |
