Show Legion-Auxiliary To Push August Bond Sales Series of Victory Parties To Be Held By Ladies To Help Promote Campaign Responsibility for the August drive has been placed on the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary Aux-iliary with Gordon Mathis and Mrs. Howard Judd heading the drive and Mrs. Clair Morris as Auxiliary chairman in St. George. The two groups are already fully organized for the drive, and according ac-cording to high officials, Utah is banking on the 75 units of the American Legion and Auxiliary to put the state over the top in a big way again this month. The quota for Utah is $4,000,000, which means each county's allotment will be plenty high, but judging from past accomplishments, the quota will be met and over-subscribed, as usual. Lester Keate Post No. 90 has organzied for a real bout, the Legion having challenged the Auxiliary Aux-iliary for honors in the competitive drive. According to Mrs. Phoenix the women are sponsoring a series of neighborhood Victory parties, to which each member will bring a War Stamp. The refreshments are to be limited to a drink and one other item and all Stamps will be used as prizes. Each lady invited in-vited to a party must in turn entertain, en-tertain, which means that the women of the entire town should eventually be drawn into the mesh of victory entertainments. Victory Bond Harvest The Legionnaires on the other hand are launching a Victory Bond Harvest. Based on property valuation, each member of the local post would be assessed the job of selling a little less than $350.00 in Bonds during August, but are setting $350.00 as their shooting mark, states the chairman, Gordon Mathis. The Legion has challenged the Aux-liary, Aux-liary, with the understanding that the low score group will entertain enter-tain the winners at a swimming party and melon bust. Also, there is to be a special award to the man or woman who makes the highest individual sales during the month, he or she to be crowned "Bond Harvest King or Queen", at the party. In launching the drive, Chairman Chair-man Mathis says, "To you citizens of Enterprise, Veyo, Central, Pine Valley, Santa Clara, Washington and St. George, will you help the Legionnaires with their harvest? They fought for you in 1917. Buy Bonds for them this month. It is the American Legion and Auxiliary Aux-iliary Bond Harvest. Help them to make this a bumper crop." To Install Barometers Some of the local business houses, says Mr. Mathis, will install in-stall barometers indicating the progress made as the month goes along. "Help us to make the red mark reach the top before August Aug-ust 31st". The Legion Post of Hurricane will sponsor the drive in eastern Washington county and will no doubt put over a big drive, says Mr. Mathis. A report of their activities will appear in next week's paper if available. The July sale of War Bonds and Stamps in St. George with the women at the helm went over in great style reports Mrs. John J. Phoenix Jr., women's chairman, who with her various committee members extend a vote of appreciation ap-preciation to every individual who helped to put the drive over. The closing week's effort netted $735.10, and the month's sales totaled S7.365.90, which made a definite lift toward the county's allotment for the month of $20,000. |
