Show HEWS OF THE COUNTY SEAT Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Simmons and family returned Wednesday evening eve-ning from Salt Lake City where they had gone to attend the graduation grad-uation exercises of the U, of U. Their son, Edward Junior (Ted, was graduated with a business degree from the University. They were accompanied by Miss Margaret Mar-garet Mitchell. Their daughter Shirley remained in Salt Lake City where she will attend the L.D.S. Business College. Ted will return Sunday, having had to stay to finish up on his flying course since bad weather had delayed his getting in the required number of hours. Mr. and Mrs. Olfred Larson left Wednesday for Logan where they plan to spend several weeks visiting. They were accompanied by their grandaughter, Ruth Larson, Lar-son, who has been visiting in St. George the past week. Lew Wallace, district president of the Roswell, New Mexico, branch of the L.D.S. Mission, and associate of Ernest Bradshaw, who is' located at that place spent Tuesday and Wednesday visiting with Mr. Bradshaw's parents in this city. Bernell McAllister left Monday for his transfer assignment with the soil conservation program in Panguitch area. Mrs. McAllister and family plan to join him about July 1. ' Mrs. Keith Ross was hostess to the Bridge Ettes this week at her home. High score was won by Mrs. Robert Pickett. A luncheon lunch-eon was served to 12 members. Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Claud Worthen of this city of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Habbishaw of Salt Lake City, on June 7. Mrs. Habbishaw Hab-bishaw is the former Violet Worthen. Wor-then. Mrs. Dave Murdock and son, Walter from Camp Verde, Arizona, arrived here Monday. They were accompanied home Wednesday by Mrs. Murdocks' aunt, Mrs. Orpha Hunt, who will remain in Arizona for the summer. The Misses Nora and Iva Shum-way Shum-way arrived Friday from Salt Lake City to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jed Shumway, and with relatives in Kana'b for a month before returning to the north. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gates and two children of Ogden stopped in St. George Wednesday for a visit with friends and relatives. From here they will go to Los Angeles for a few davs visit. Dr. J. E. Ahlstrom took the airplane at Las Vegas last Friday evening .to attend the Saturday graduation services of the University Uni-versity of California from which he graduated in 1938. He returned re-turned Sunday evening. Returning over the week end from attending conference in Salt Lake City were Mrs. Gilbert Hyatt, Hy-att, Mrs. Vernon Worthen and daughter, Alene, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schmutz, Herman Larkin, Tillie Winsor, Florence Foremaster and Emmaline Lemmon. Miss Lemmon received a special award for activity in Bee Hive work. Mrs. Grace Ence was hostess Wednesday night to the Three-W Rook club with Mrs. Clarence Webb, Mrs. Helen Blake and Mrs. Mary R. Bowler sharing honors. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis R. Lund" and daughters of Marysvale spent Saturday and Sunday in St. George with relatives. Mrs. Norman Johnson returned late Wednesday from Salt Lake City where she has been for the past two weeks. Her brother, Le-Grande Le-Grande Nelson, who graduated Tuesday from the University of Utah, returned with her. i Shirley Reber, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Reber underwent surgery at the local hospital this (Thursday) morning. Attending the Edward Henry Syphus funeral services in Logan-dale, Logan-dale, Nevada, Wednesday afternoon after-noon from St. George were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Syphus and children, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Jennings, Jen-nings, Mrs. Joheph L. Turn-beaugh Turn-beaugh and daughter, Mrs. Madge Bauer, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Syphus, George E. Miles, Martin A. Bunker, Bunk-er, Mr. and Mrs. Mathew McMur-tire McMur-tire and Antone Nelson. Mrs. Tazel More of San Francisco Fran-cisco is a guest of Mrs. Nelson Empey since Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hogan left Thursday night for Salt Lake City. From there they will go to Detroit where they will take de-lievery de-lievery on a now car. Mrs. Lydia Lee of Sparks, Nevada, returned Wednesday night from Logandale with Mr. and Mrs. Everett Syphus to visit for several sev-eral days. Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Milne left Sunday morning for Detroit where they will take delivery on a new car. Following this they will tour the east. |
