Howard Wade In Germany Impressive memorial services held in the St .George stake Tabernacle Taber-nacle Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 4 p.m. jointly honored Cpl. Heber Wm. Nelson, husband of Mrs. Clella C. Nelson and son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Nelson and Cpl. Howard A. Wade, son of Mr. and Mrs. Israel Wade, all of St. George. Cpl. Wade was killed in action in Germany on Nov. 30 and Cpl. Nelson gave his life in action in Leyte, the Philippines, Nov. 23. Presiding at, the services were Bp. Andrew McArthur of the South ward of which Cpl. Nelson was a member and Bp. Wilford Schmutz of the East ward of which Cpl." Wade was a member. Official military honors were directed di-rected by Commander Roy Williams Wil-liams of the Lester Keate Post NO. 90, the American Legion. Mrs. Vern Cannon presided at the organ. Music numbers were "Though Thp Wav Re Full of Trial," by the East ward choir, George P. Lytle leader and Mrs. Marion Pulsipher accompanying; solo, "My Task," Mrs. Roma Jean Hansen, Han-sen, accompanied by Mrs. Mae A. Pace; vocal duet, "There's A Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere" by Russell and Glen-na Glen-na Graff; solo, "Oh, My Father," Vernon Worthen and "Sleep, Soldier Sol-dier Boy Sleep," Ray Garner. Students of Dixie colelge Herman Larkin paid special tribute to Cpl Wade who was closely associated with his brother broth-er who is now in military service and Haven Paxman told of his association with Cpl. Nelson and his family. Pres. Glenn Snow of Dixie junior college saluted the two heroes for their work as students, stu-dents, as civilians and as cora-geous cora-geous soldiers of freedom. Both were college students and figured in athletic and other activities. ! Tribute from the American (Continued on page eight) Memorial Service (Continued from first page) Legion was given by Commander Roy Williams who said in part, "We are here today to honor the memory of two of our comrades, who offered their lives in the service ser-vice of their country. This moment mom-ent is sacred with their almost visible presence. They have now enrolled in that great spirit army whose footfalls cause no sound, but their souls go marching on, sustained by the pride of service in time of national danger." He urged those bereaft to "look forward for-ward to the time when light and peace shall come, when the burden bur-den shall be lifted and the heartache heart-ache shall cease, when the love, the hope and the fulfillment that escapes us here shall be given us forever." U. S. Flags were! given to the wife of ' Cpl. Nelson and to ' the mother of Cpl. Wade by Chaplain Howard Starr. Prayers were by Pres. Harold Snow and Chaplain Starr. The salute was directed by Commander Williams with echo taps by Greg Snow and Mark McAlister. |
