The boys showed considerable promise in their first game of the season last Friday night, though they lost to an experienced ex-perienced Beaver high team 20-21. Coach Hafen used nine of his ten men in various combinations to determine the possibilities for a permanent starting five. The tenth man, a promising guard, Bob Fawcett, was not used because be-cause of ineligibility. On the floor at the sound of the whistle were Kent Reber and ElMyrrh Cox at forward, Howard Atkin at Center and Victor Frei and Stafford 'Snow at guard. Seeing See-ing considerable action with these five throughout the game were Leon Watson, Ronald McArthur and RalDh Hafen at forward and Wesley Whitehead at guard. Beaver took an early lead, which Dixie overtook late in the game. A one-point margin looked good with one minute to play, but Beaver took the lead just before be-fore the gun barked. As the gun sounded, Frei was fouled, but he was unable to convert. The Hurricane high defeated the same Beaver five Saturday night 26-23, indicating that Dixie will be in there fighting this year. Hurricane is conceded by many as the team to beat for the league bunting. ... Next Wednesday the team will travel to Panaca, and on Friday the Lincoln high boys will play a return game here. |
