Show Gleeson Poultry Plant Now Ready for The 1944 Processing Processing of turkeys and poultry for the 1944 holiday market will be materially speeded up at the Fred G. Gleeson plant in St. George with the new unit and equipment recently installed. Last year they could handle from 500 to 700 birds per day, but that number will be greatly increased this year. A large 20 by 54 foot brick room has been added at the south of the building, and a smaller receiving re-ceiving room at the north of the building. The poultry will be taken in at the north entrance and go from there through cement-floored chutes to the dressing dress-ing room, which also has a cement ce-ment floor and drainage. The equipment includes an electrically operated 50-bird carrier car-rier which handles the birds from the time they are taken from the chutes until they are pinned and ready for the refrigerator. Passing from the killing point through the scalding tank, they are stripped of their feathers at a large ruffing drum and pass along to the pluckers, and from there to the elevator and to the freezing unit, with a minimum of time and handling. If the 'plant has as many turkeys tur-keys come in this year as last and there is every reason to expect ex-pect there will be an increase Mr. Gleeson says he will be wel tContinued on page eight) Gleeson Poultry Plant (Continued from first page) satisfied and they can handle this years turkey and poultry crop to advantage and in quarters that will meet requirements. |
