Show Dixie College and Hi Teams Lose. In Practice Games Tie Dixie college basketball team bowed to the Mesa college Mavericks Maver-icks here Monday night 30-50. The Mesa team led all the way, leading lead-ing at the half 2S-12. This is the first real test for the locals, with Coach Watts still juggling his line-up to find a starting five. The Mavericks were on their way home after a successful tour of the Pacific Coast, where they downed three powerful teams in three starts. The league season will start early in -January, but there is still indecision on the schedule. (Continued on page nine) Hi-College Basketball (Continued from first page) The high school squad returned Saturday night from a practice tour in the north. The boys lost all three encounters. Their defense de-fense was good, according to Coach Hafen, but they just could not hit the hoop. Too, only six boys were taken on the trip. Murray won 31-19 on Thursday; Cyprus eked out a two-point victory vic-tory on Friday; and Beaver won the final Saturday, 31-17. Payson is scheduled to play the Flyers here on January 2nd. The first league game for the locals on the home court will be January 10 with Orderville. While the league teams are preparing pre-paring for the start of the season, the rest of the boys are engaging in an intra-mural series. To date, the seniors and the faculty are m the lead, each having won two games. The round robin wiU be completed after the holidays. |
