Christmas music has a beauty and depth that reaches both young and old and in its wide range of music and words there are melodies to appeal to all ages. Various nations have had different themes and methods of celebrating Christmas, but all have featured singing sing-ing as part of the spirit that goes with Christmas. As a religious group the Catholics have perhaps lent more color to their songs than any other group. It is related that the most famous of all Christmas songs "Silent Night" was written by a Catholic priest and his organist as a Christmas carol for his children. Whether it is as a group going from house to house, as a great choir singing before thousands, or as a family gathering around the piano, the singing of Christmas songs brings a joy to the participants and those who hear them, and a depth of feeling that is not known in other types of songs. As music is the language of all nations, na-tions, carols are the songs of all nations na-tions and peoples. |
