Whitney on the matter of the Gospel ladder as a spiritual means of salvation. "A lasting spiritual testimony i s gained through work," Mrs. Wahlquist, added. Edith Lambert, a member of the primary presidency stressed the answering of a call, and made mention of the numerous answers to the call of duty of the church members. She called attention to William Gardner and stated that he had drne a wonderful work in New Zealand and although he had passed on he was still loved and respected by those people. Mr. Judd made mention of the wonderful environment in Dixie and held that as this community was growing all should always seek only the good. In speaking of the Gospel, he stated that it is God's plan of life and if church members live its teachings they can grow and develop and reach eternity. The splendid organizations organiza-tions found in the church were praised by Mr. Judd and he stressed stress-ed the fact that all aided in individual in-dividual development. Benediction, George Brooks. Conference reconvened Sunday morning at ten o'clock with President Pres-ident Bentley presiding. The music for the afternoon session ses-sion was furnished by the Woodward Wood-ward schogl. Mrs. Madge Cannon told of the things the primary organization intends to accomplish during 19 3 6. She gave it as her opinion that the parents should change their attitude atti-tude toward primary work and encourage en-courage their children t; attend, declaring that there should be a closer cooperation between the bishop and other ward o!ficers. Attention was directed by her to the fact that many people desired that the time of union meeting be changed from Sunday until Saturday Satur-day afternoon. Mrs. Bessie Gardner treated the topic, "I have Found Joy in Helping Help-ing Boys and Girls in Primary." Mrs. Wahlquist discoursed on ' the topic, "Love Service." A boy's willingness to help others, was used by her to prove her assertion. asser-tion. "We should do more than we are asked," she said, "if we would" gain greater blessings," and gave instances showing now much work mothers do in the relief society. so-ciety. Songs of joy were led by Vera Christian and Clara Woodhouse. These were: "Because He Loves Me 3o," "Be Happy," Sunshine and Rain," and "The Lord is My Shepherd." The Sunday school films of leaders lea-ders of the church were then shown. Pres. W. O. Bentley introduced the stake primary officers and Guy Hafen introduced the stake Sunday Sun-day school board. Mr. Judd bore his testimony that the leaders in the church, both in stakes and wards were men of God and asserted church members should support them and honor their leaders at all times. Benediction by Maurice J. Miles of the high council. Conference reconvened at 2:00 Sunday afternoon with singing by the choir and congregation, "Master "Mas-ter the Tempest is Raging." The general church and stake authorities were presented and sustained by the vote of all present. pre-sent. Pres. Orval Hafen spoke of the good work done by many members mem-bers of the church and contended . that some inactive members have doubts on many religious subjects. sub-jects. "We should all be consis-tant consis-tant in our church work and live the commandments of God. Some of our missionaries are not as earnest ear-nest as they should be and do not honor every call as they should. Many of them are too -yitisfied while others are too liberal. liber-al. Greatness comes through service ser-vice and children should be taught this. Parents should be tolerant with them while teaching through the aid of the spirit," Mr. Hafen declared. W. W. Cannon spoke of the need of the help of ths Lord in daily work and gave some accounts of his work as an engineer. That many failed when on relief work to do all that was asked of them, was charged by him and he urged all to do their best to work faithfully faith-fully in their positions. Mathew M. Bentley made mention men-tion of the value of a testimony of the gospel and the obligations parents owe their children. "They should assist them in making their choice of a life's work," he said. John H. Cottam called attention atten-tion to the ward teaching in the stake and especially emphasized the necessity of prayer. Told of the good that is done by ward teachers. Vocal duet, by Mr. and Mrs. Ma-zel Ma-zel Sproul. Lewis Christian spoke of the blessings received through the organizations or-ganizations by those who attended them regularly. He pointed out that church members should be at peace through their hope of the .gospel future and prove faithful and humble at all times. Mrs. Lambert spoke of the good spirit that was present at the meetings meet-ings and made mention of the beauties of the world as made by God. "The trees, flowers, birds and all such things should fill us with appreciation and love. We j should have love for all mankind, (and especially should parents have I great love for their children. Many parents do not have sufficient love for their children and they lose them. We must keep our children child-ren home through prayer, kindness kind-ness and the help of the Lord," she contended. Mr. Judd told the story of a certain court case and stated that prayer is the means of helping God's children in their work in this life. Mention was made by him of an article by Mr. Sperry which he discussed. "We should keep the Sabbath day holy and we know the church leaders are very much opposed to cards. We as a state voted for liquor but we as Latter-Day-3aints should appreciate appre-ciate the gospel enough that we will let it alone and teach our children to let it alone. Let us wage a battle against it such as no other people have done," . he urged. President Bentley expressed the appreciation of the presence of Mr. Judd, Mrs. Lambert and Mrs. Wahlquist. Benediction by Bishop Graff of Santa Clara. At 8:00 that evening the stake mutual presented a song 'festival under the direction of Mrs. Mae Pace. Mrs. Wahlquist spoke on "Use of Leisure Time," and Mrs. Lambert spoke on "Unselfish Service." |
