Show HURRICANE MHS. KATHARINE LARSON Reporter The P.-T. A. met Tuesday evening, even-ing, December 7 at the new gymnasium. gym-nasium. Mrs. Lyle O. Sullivan, president of the organization took charge. After community singing led by Vernon Church with Mrs. Vernet Hinton at the piano, followed fol-lowed a series of three talks given giv-en by Mrs. Rhoda R. Prince, La-Fell La-Fell Iverson, and Vernon Church. They treated upon the subject of correct selection of books to be used in the homes by school children. Music for the program was furnished by the band under the direction of Owen Bergener and by a stringed duet from Mona Wilson and LaDona Stevens. The remainder ' of the time was made enjoyable by Miss Emily Schoen-hals Schoen-hals who led out in games and dance mixers. Refreshments under un-der the supervision of Mrs. Ora W. Williams and Mrs. Flora W. Tweedie were served to the 125 persons present. M. I. Mrs. Isabeiie Hinton spent last week at Kingston visiting her daughter, Mrs. Cloyd Morrell. Mrs. Fern R. Demille entertained enter-tained eight guests Saturday afternoon af-ternoon at the home of her mother, Mrs. Manila Ruesch. The luncheon was in honor iof Mrs. Sylvia Catherine of New York and Mrs. LaToz Wilson of California. Calif-ornia. The basketball game played here Friday evening, December 11 between the local team and Overton high school team came out with the following score; Hurricane, Hur-ricane, 25, Overton 19. Saturday evening Coach Brooks took the boys to Bunkerville where he was again victorious with a score of 26 to 16. Elmer Graff refereed the game at Hurricane and Wayne Hinton umpired at Bunkerville. Ward Wright was high scdreman in both games. Readings ifrom Mark Twain's "Rouighing It" were given by Mrs. Josephine C. Inglestead at the regular meeting of the Alice Louise Reynolds club at the home of Mrs. Anna B. Taylor at La-Verkin La-Verkin on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Ila S. Sullivan was co-hostess. Refreshments were served to thirteen members. Mrs. Ruby R. Webb, Mts. S. Stratton, Miss Merta Wilson, Miss Helen Webb and Clifton Wilson, employees at Graff Mercantile entertained en-tertained on Saturday evening in honor of their employer's birthday. birth-day. Games, a- fine program and a delicious lunch made the evening even-ing pleasant for all. Emil Graff has kept sixty men busy this week picking turkeys for the California markets. Mrs. Lottie Loveless and children child-ren of Tacomia, Washington are here visiting her father, George Campbell. The black camp or seal coat is being added to the hard surface sur-face road on Main street. Saturday afternoon the citizen of Hurricane voted to bond themselves them-selves for a new water system. This will insure us against the culinary water "going off". Mr. and Mrs. Mason Price from Panaca spent the . week-end here visiting relatives. Mrs. Beulah Staheli and Mrs. Minetta Hunt made a business trip to Cedar City Saturday. The P. T. A. presented the play, "Don't Tell Mother," Friday night in the ward hall. Those taking part were Isa Price, Dorothy Doro-thy Tobiason, Ronald Lytle, Paul Simpkins, Ellis Hunt and Will Hunt. The play was very successful suc-cessful and those taking part did exceptionally well. The P. T. A. feel well paid for the effort they put in to present the play. Over $50.00 was turned over to the association. Miss Josephine Huntsman has gone to California to visit. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sprague visited visit-ed with relatives here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Justin Lamb spent the week-end here from Pioche. Mr. and Mrs. Vendon Coleman. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Huntsman made a business trip to St. George on Saturday. Marion Terry has returned from Los Angeles where he has been on business. Officers of the Enterprise Civics club went to St. George to meet the commissioners and talk over the proposed road from Cedar to Nevada Nev-ada and see if the road could be put thru Enterprise. They showed show-ed to the commissioners that the I proposed route thru Enterprise I would accommodate more people. provide a shorter route, provide 1 just as good a grade with prac-I prac-I tically no added expense. Lund. , and Grant Clove made a busi- ness trip to Hurricane Saturday. Mr. Pectol attended a meeting for athletic coaches and Mr. Lund and Mr. Clove took the examination examina-tion for referees. Merrill P. Fawson of Salt Lake City has been selected to fill the vacancy in the commercial department de-partment of the high school left by Miss Varena J. Adams. Mr. Adams is a graduate of the University Uni-versity of Utah with a major in Commercial Education. He has had one year teaching commercial commer-cial work in the adult education program. We feel ifortunate in securing the services of a so well trained person. |
