Bishop Snow explained that work began as project for employment em-ployment with part pay and part credit- Many large and small contributions con-tributions were received. He stated stat-ed he felt assured that none would know any lack through their contributions con-tributions to such a cause. "Tithes have increased during 1937 especially, and so far in 1938. Men and women have cooperated coopera-ted Organizations have assisted in various" ways, and through it all the building is completed and fully paid for, with a balance of funds for installing a cooling system", sys-tem", said Bishop Snow. In behalf of the ward he extended appreciation apprecia-tion to all who had in any way helped to accomplish the erection of this creditable building. Building Praised Elder Ivins expressed pleasure in attending and gratification to see such a "splendid edifice" and know it is paid for. "A building over which hangs a debt is a source of anixiety. It is claimed the greatest invention is 'Interest', and I know it is a severe taskmaster. task-master. A good brick must be well pressed. Likewise people are better and stronger for having come through great struggles. It is good to be where labor is- required. re-quired. People of Dixie have been tested in the pressed brick mould of experience," he declared. He extended congratulations to ' the ward and urged people to get " maximum benefits made possible with this building, "else the sacri-fice sacri-fice will have been in vain." . President Grant Speaks ; President Grant made comparisons compari-sons of the erection of this building build-ing with the experiences of early days, and expressed joy that the building fund of the church today makes possible the larger contri- butions.- "In the good old days", I said President Grant, "the people I; were required to contribute all i the material and all the labor for a. buildings. With the present maintenance main-tenance fund it is also possible to ! have the buildings properly reno-- reno-- vated and cared for, whereas all i janitor work used to be gratis, I and oftimes became a hardship in i some respects." He said he rejoiced that the building is paid for and pointed out that interest is always a great burden. He said he was reminded of a letter written from this city by Pres. Brigham Young thanking an Eastern company for refusing to grant credit to Z.C.M.I. in early days. Teaches Lesson "It taught a great lesson. We must come back to first principles, have a genuine interest in home products. I am anxious that the people cease going in debt. If the world will live the "Word of Wisdom" Wis-dom" there is enough for all, the health of the people will improve and in the righteous laboring for temporal salvation we will be made stronger for gaining spiritual spiritu-al salvation. The. support of home industries is a boon to local people. peo-ple. Tithing should be paid honest- ' ly. Wealth often binds those who were liberal with their fellowmen and with the Lord during years of poverty. If we would but look at what is left after tithes are paid, the heart will swell with joy 'n accomplishment. Appetite, wrongly indulged becomes harmful. harm-ful. May God help us to be righteous and to continue in serv-ng serv-ng his faithfully." |
