Show School Census Reveals Decline In ttaber Of Children Enrolled The school census which has just been completed reveals some very interesting facts, reports Milton E. Moody, county school superintendent. superin-tendent. According to Superintendent Superin-tendent Moody, up until the year 1937 the school census showed a steady increase in children 'between 'be-tween the ages of. six and efght-een efght-een but since that time it has shown a decrease. The peak was reached in 1937 with a school population of 2819. The year 1938 showed a total of 2806 or a decrease of thirteen; 1939 showed a total of 2770 or a decrease of 36; 1910 shows a otal of 2745 or a decrease of 25 over the previous year, or a decrease de-crease in three years of 74. If figured in- terms of revenue, it represents a loss in the three years from the S25 fund of $1850 to the school district. "The sad feature of it all", declares de-clares Mr. Moody, "is that the enumeration of the various age (Continued on page three) . Co. School Census (Continued from ttrst pagel groups shows we cannot for a number of years expect an increase in-crease unless the people who move into our county will have families of school children. The decrease fn the number of large families seem to be the determining determ-ining factor. "The school census also shows that the boys of the county of school age out-number the girls hy 129. We also have an increase in number of children out of school and not legally excused. Last year 41 were marked illegally illeg-ally excused while this year reveals re-veals the increase to 62. This is especially a regretable thing as all children should be in school unless legally excused." Towns showing increase in population pop-ulation are, the amount: Spring-dale Spring-dale 10; Rockville 3; Hurricane !8; LaVerkin 2; Toquerville 7; St. George East 1; Enterprise 8. Those showing decrease in school Population are, and the amount: Virgin 6; Leeds 7; Washington 12; St.. George West 1; Santa Clara 9: Gunlock 8; Voyo 3; and New Harmony 8. |
