Show UTAH CROP REPORT August 1, Utah's wheat crops yielded a little better than was expected a month ago. and are now esti-1 mated at 3.186.000 bushels, com-; pared to 4.079.000 in 1933 and i zn average for 1927-1931 of 5.-j 5 19.000 bushels. Harvests were: earlier than usual this year. The decrease in production this year is due largely to the drouth, which affected acreage as well a? yield. This applies to other crops as well as wheat. The cates crop is estimated at 910.-0 910.-0 00 bushels, compared to 1,550,-000 1,550,-000 last year and a five-year average of 1,691,000. Barley is expected to amount to 672,000 bushels compared to 1,147,000 in 19 3 3 and a five-year average of 1,401,000. All grain crops (including corn and rye are estimated es-timated this year at 5,087.000 bushels, compared to 7.2S0.OO0 bushels last year and a five-year average of 9,043,000 bushels. The hay crops are expected to amount this season to 647,000 tons, compared to 1,318,000 in 1933 and a five-year average of 1,302,000 tons. The potato crop is forcast at 1.540,000 bushels; last year it was 2,100,000 bushels. Sugar beets have been seriously damaged damag-ed by drouth, insect pests and disease, and their condition on August 1, forecasts a total production pro-duction of only 210,000 tons, compared to 912,000 in 1933 and a five-year average of 587,- 000 tons. Orchard fruits are better than the very poor crops of 1933, which were reduced by freezing and other causes. Apples this year are to yield 634.000 bushels compared to 313,000 in 1933; the peach crop this year is forecast fore-cast at 567,000 bushels, while last year's crop was only 62,000. The pear crop this year is forecast S50 tons, compared to 3,078 in 1933. SUGAR BEETS The production of sugar beets in leading states this season, as forecast from condition on August Aug-ust 1, (with final figures for 1933 in parentheses) is: Ohio 286,000 (328,000); Michigan 812,000 (1,203,000); Nebraska 560,000 (1,067,000); Montana 620,000 (838,000); Idaho 330,-000 330,-000 (837,000); Wyoming 352,-000 352,-000 (593.000); Colorado 1,566,-000 1,566,-000 (2,628,000); Utah 210,000 (912,000); California 1,275,000 (1,618,000); United States (including (in-cluding minor states not listed here) 6, S01, 000 (11,030,000). The acreage of sugar beets for harvest this season in the United States is now estimated at 811,-000 811,-000 compared to the revised total of 9S3.000 in 1933. |
