Show Increased Tariff on Onions Salt Lake City One of the important import-ant problems to be considered at the regional agricultural conference at Salt Lake October 1 and 2, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of the United States with the Salt Lake chamber of commerce cooperating, will be the matter of an increased tariff on onions. Both Utah and Idaho have made appeals to the tariff commission com-mission for a half cent increase per pound in this duty. Three of the eight states to be represented at the conference. confer-ence. Utah, Idaho, and Colorado, are major onion producers and representatives represent-atives from these states will present data to show that the domestic indus-I indus-I try needs further protection from for-' for-' eign shipments. The present tariff is one cent per pound. The farm bureaus in the three states and the Idaho state chamber of commerce have announced their intention to present pre-sent information in support of the tariff increase plea. The American Farm Bureau federation also is working work-ing in behalf of the domestic growers. |
