Show BISHOP HEPWORTH PASSES Bishop Thornton Hepworth of the Springdale ward passed away last Sunday at 3 p. m., in the hospital here of hemorrhage of the brain, caused by the breaking of a blood vessel .after a very short illness. Washington county loses a splendid splen-did citizen in his passing and his departure de-parture is regretted by a very large circle of friends besides his wife and family. He was born in the Middle West in 1S64 and came first to Salt Lake, then to Idaho and finally to Dixie, settling at Springdale. He served in the Springdale ward bishopric 33 years, the last 16 years of which he was bishop. ' He was very influential in Church and political leadership. While he lay sick in the hospital he was visited by Apostle John A. Widtsoe. Widt-soe. Funeral services were heldin the meeting house at Springdale at one o'clock p. m. Tuesday. The high esteem in which he was held was manifested at the funeral, about 75 cars being there from all parts of the county. The meeting house was packed to capacity and a large number num-ber of people' had to stand outside. All wards in the eastern part of the county were officially represented. Among those attending from St. George were President Jos K. Nicholes, Nich-oles, Pres. and Mrs. W. O. Bentley. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace B. Mathis. The remains were laid to rest in the Springdale cemetery, a profusion of flowers covering the grave. |
