Preliminary steps for the formation for-mation cf a Utah state chamber of commerce to develop and advertise ad-vertise the state were taken Tuesday Tues-day when civic club representatives representa-tives from twenty counties met in Salt Lake. One hundred delegates, officially representing principal organizations in every county of the state, except ex-cept nine, unanimously adopted a resolution favoring the perfection perfec-tion of a state body. A committee was appointed to draft articles of agreement governing gov-erning the operations and activities activi-ties cf the proposed state chamber cham-ber of commerce for presentation to the various unit civic clubs for consideration. Providing it is accepted ac-cepted by a sufficient number to be representative, the state organization organ-ization will be perfected at a subsequent sub-sequent meeting in Salt Lake. The matter of time and place awaits action on the articles of agreement. Members of the articles committee commit-tee are: Beverly S. Clendenin, past president of the Salt Lake chamber cham-ber of commerce, chairman; R. S. Hinckley, Ogden; Horace Avon, Bingham; John Beesley, Provo; Jos. S. Snow, St. George; Mayor Frank G. Martines, Richfield, and Dr. Jos. Peck of Tooele. The counties officially represented represent-ed were: Washington, Iron, Beaver, Bea-ver, Kane, Garfield, Piute, Sevier, Wayne, Sanpete, Carbon, Emery, San Juan, Duchesne, Logan, Weber, We-ber, Tooele, Utah, Juab, Salt Lake and Cache. The Associated Civic clubs of Southern Utah, embracing the chambers of commerce and other civic clubs in eleven south and., central counties, have already formally for-mally approved the move for a state chamber. It is not the purpose of the state body to supplant the local civic clubs nor to interfere with their effectiveness in the respective respec-tive communities which they serve. Matters of state-wide importance only would be handled by the state organization. |
