To Whom It May Concern: We have read with much imeiv.-u iho aelvor; Laments La-ments in a recent issue cf vour rrwr. written bv E. II. Snow and the state bank cem.m.iioner. relative rela-tive to the closing of the Dixie Stockjrrowers Rank. e agree m ioJtance with both articles, except nr.ra-graph nr.ra-graph t'.vo of Mr. Snow's letter. This iivagraphhvs llot cell the story so far as our bank is concerned. We went to St. George at the call of the bank commissioner to sec if we could assist in effecting a consolidation of the two St. George banks, inasmuch as those two banks could not seem to get together. It appeared that the Dixie Stockgrowers Rank would have to close its doors and tie up the depositors' money, at least temporarily, unless something could be done by the other batiks of the neighborhood to prevent it. The Rank of St. George did not seem willinc- to I assume the whole liability of the Dixie Slockgrowors Bank to its depositors so the other three banks represented, rep-resented, the State Rank of Hurricane, the Rank of Iron County and our bank, tentatively agreed to assume as-sume 5,000 of the liability, which 'agreement was subject to confirmation by the directors of each bank concerned. Wc called a meeting of our directors at S o'clock Wednesday morning and put the proposition to them. Inasmuch as the Rank of St. George would be the sole beneficiary of the business formerly had by the Dixie Stockgrowers Rank, and in addition would have the use of the !?12."".000 that the other three batiks would put in, we felt that the three outside banks should be preferred creditors. Our at t hide was made known to the bank commissioner and he in turn bM Mr. Snow. Mr. Snow refused to accede to our renuest and in turn he ctatcd that he wanted to go into the notes and select ?30,00() of same to .secure the .'r'JO,- 000 that the Rank of St. George would advance, and the other banks could pool (ho rest id' the notes to secure their advances. This we refused to do, but notified the bank commissioner (hat we would meet rgain that evening- and iloublles:; would be willing to stand by the J'onm r tentative agrcemonl. We met in the evening and agreed to pool our interests with the Rank of St. (Jorge and the banks at Hurricane and at I'arowan, and to be paid pro rata as the funds were collected from the liie Slock-growors Slock-growors notes. The next morning we called the bank commissioner before eight o'clock and told him our decision. Ho said it was too late, that n got iat ions Lad been clo:-ed the night before and he had ordered the bank closed. At no time did we break off negotiations. Wo felt that if (he Dixie Stockgrowers Rank had (o close it, should be done through a consolidation with the Rank of St. (Jiorge. This mil hod would nlci: e (he deposits a o:ire .and not di-turb bminess conditions of (lie neijdil orhood. We bit (hat the Rank of St. George had everything to gain by the consolidation method and nothing to . e. It would gain the good will of the community and e: pi eially of t he i'i po itors of the Ris.ie Si o). growers Raid;, anil in addition certainly would gain miedt. if not all. of the bu mens form r!y done by (-aid bank.
