Show WOODWARD SCHOOL NOTES Winners ot the themes written writ-ten by the eighth grade for the American Legion Auxiliary contest con-test were LeGrande Nelson, whose composition was entitlecT'The Call of America", and Elizabeth Cot-tam, Cot-tam, "The American Flag." JIany students entered themes, some of which were excellent. The judges had a hard time to decide which were outstanding. W Miss Dorothy Snow's grade "had a party on Valentine's day. They played games, told storie? and enjoyed other activities. Lyman Ly-man Smoke won a prize for drawing the hest heart blindfolded. blindfold-ed. The prize was a big Valentine. Valen-tine. JLiss McArthur brought Valentine Valen-tine cookies to the party. Winston Hickman, Hick-man, Linton Lang. Veral Lang. Ross McArthur, Earl Milne, Billy Morris, Darwin R.eher, DeWayne Sehmutz, Ellsworth Snow, Maude Bentley, Tarma Canfield. Joey Covington, Inez Fuilerton, Ma-deme Ma-deme Hail. Gena Higbee. Vauna Lear.y, Beulah Smith, Edna Sor-enson, Sor-enson, Mary Wade and Lois Whipple. v.- At 3 p. m. on February 17. the students of Miss Be s;e At-kin's At-kin's fifth grade gave a patriotic program for Miss Segr.iil!er'-i grade. Hatchets were pinned on the guests by Effie Stock and Wiiford Canfield. The following program was given: Song, "America for Me." Salute to the Flag. Story, "A Man of Great Importance," Im-portance," Preston Whitehead; poem, "The Flag", Buzz Stauf-fer; Stauf-fer; "How the Star Spangled Banner Come to Be Written", Delsey Miles; song, "The Star Spangled Banner"; poem, Flag of Our Country", Helen Cannon; "History of Our Flag"; "Father of the Land We Love"; poem, "American Flag", Helen Osten-son; Osten-son; story, "Benefits Forgot", Rodney Lemmons; "The Flag Song." Following the program Madeline Made-line Chase read a challence for a spelling match to be held on the afternoon of the 2 4th. It was decided that the match was to be held with twenty students chosen from each grade. |
