Show - - - - - - Will OF R.F.C. TOLD BY ENGINEER Reported that Five Towns in Washington County Will Ask for Money for Improving Im-proving of Water Works Dr. C. O. Piekel, state sanitary sani-tary engineer, and member of the distribution of Reconstruction Reconstruc-tion Finance Corporation funds for Utah, spent last week end in this county explaining the loans to city and town officials. Dr. Pickel met with the St. George city council Saturday and told what improvements might be made here, and the amount that would be available for this locality. local-ity. Although no vote on the matter was taken, it was generally gen-erally conceded by city officials that a bond issue would not be passed here under present conditions, condi-tions, and that voting would be an unnecessary expense. Towns of the county, which according to Dr. Pickel, will ask for government aid, are Santa Clara, Leeds, New Harmony, Gunlock, and Toquerville. All of the towns will seek the money for self-liquidating water system improvements. . The first two named towns, he stated, will probably ask for $5500 and $5,-000 $5,-000 respectively. Loans from the R. F. C, he declared, is the cheapest money that a town can get. The interest in-terest rate is the smallest of any finance available, and repayments can be made over a long period of time 20 years for incorporated incorpor-ated cities and towns, and 70 years for privately owned corporations. cor-porations. To date nearly $3,000,00 in loans has been approved in this state in 218 towns and cities, that have applied. A decision of the supreme court should make the money available by the end of this week. Regarding the St. George water wa-ter situation, which has been a cause for considerable complaint com-plaint from the engineer, he stated stat-ed that in his opinion the supply is now sanitary and safe. With the cementing of the settling pond, which he will recommend as soon as the city is in a financial fin-ancial condition to afford such a step, St. George will have ono of the purest and best systems in the state. |
