Show OBJECT TO CHANGING BRYCE CANYON NAME Objection to having the name of Bryce canyon changed to the "Utah National park" was made by Governor George H. Dern recently in a letter to Congressman Louis C. Crampton. chairman of the subcommittee on parks appropriations of the national house of representatives. The letter in part follows: "The law creating Bryce canyon a national park undertakes to rename it as Utah Nation Na-tion Park. In my opinion this is very objectionable from every standpoint. There are many objections to renaming renam-ing Bryce, among which are these: "Bryce has already received extensive exten-sive national advertising and we would lose the benefit of all that expense ex-pense and effort it the name were changed at this time. Tire name Utah National Park has no local signfi-cance signfi-cance or application to Bryce canyon, and would fit "any other spot in Utah as well as it fits Bryce. "It implies that Utah has only one national park. As a matter of fact, Bryce will be our second national park and it is possible that we will have others in the future." I |
