Show I Ttfcxris TAX yVi f LEVY ONE TENTH MILL S oce-tenth of one mill was pruned the state tax levy by action of Estate board of equalization Sat- 'uction is made possible in the Zjor state school purposes by the !e ed increase in assessed valuation year of about $5,000,000. The levy i the state general fund which is 'L for miscellaneous state expenses, 4 that for state high school funds Lj for endowment of high schools receiving state recognition, will regain re-gain unchanged. nis year's levy will be . 7.3 mills assessed valuation in the state of 5701,155.539- The levy will include 2.4 for the general fund, 0.2 mills for the state high school fund and 4.7 mills for the state school fund. Both the state general fund and the tate high school fund will receive larger revenues this year because of he increased valuation. The state district school endowment fund will receive about $1,400 less this year than it did in 1926 from general property taxes. The work of equalizing tax values was completed by the state board of equalization Saturday.. Sweeping raises principally affecting livestock ffere ordered in 22 counties the net result of which will be to add about S800.000 to the assessment rolls above that shown after the county boards of equalization had completed their work. With this equalization the state board brought the total assessed valuation valu-ation of the state to $701,155,538. With about $2,000,000 added to the tax rolls during the remainder of the year the board bases its levies on a valuation of $703,155,539. A levy of 4.7 mills on this valuation will yield $3,304,831 gross. However that sum will not actually be collected collect-ed owing to double and erroneous assessments as-sessments which creep into the assessments assess-ments and for these double and erroneous erron-eous assessments as well as tax sales the board has allowed a loss of 5 per cent. The population of children of school age is 143,054 as shown by the school census taken last October. Under the constitution the state board is required re-quired to raise $25 as nearly as may be for every children of school age or a total of $3,576,350. The state board's tax levy on the valuation as estimated by the board will yield $4337 above the estimated l actual requirement for giving the v schools the $25 per capita endowment. In the last several years there has been an annual increase of more than 2000 children of school age. The school population is not known until the census is completed in October Oc-tober but if that census should show the average increase this year the schools may be short a little in realizing real-izing the full $25 per capita endowment. endow-ment. This increase has never been anticipated in the past, however. Desert News. |
