Show VIRGIN Virgin, Sept. 2S. The Zion Oil and Refining Co. brought in their first well last Friday. The oil tested at 42 gravity, 130 initial, which is the highest grade oil brought in the field so far. Chas. D. Alsop is general gen-eral manager of the company. The Virgin Reserve Oil Subdivision spudded spud-ded in their No. 7 well last week on the Alsop property. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. D. Alsop entertained enter-tained at a chicken supper Thursday evening in honor of their quests, Messers. Creeley and O'Connor of Los Angeles. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cornelius, Mrs. Ballard Bal-lard and Miss Florence Miles. Chas. D. Alsop left Saturday by auto for Los Angeles on a business trip. He was accompanied by Geo. Creeley and Jack O'Connor, who have been visiting here and looking over the oil field for the past two Mr. and Mrs. James Stanley of Los Angeles are stopping here for some time. Mr Stanley is commencing to build a machine shop on his property. Mrs. Golden Webb and children left Sunday to join her husband in Salt Lake City, where they will make their home this winter. Miss Florence Miles, teacher of the three primary grades journeyed to St. George for the week end. Joe Haslam received and weighed 100 head of cattle from David Ballard Bal-lard here last Thursday. Mrs. Ballard, teacher of the 4th and 5th grades visited in Grafton during the week-end. James Lessinger, who has been drilling for C. E. Cline, left Sunday for California. Henry Cornelius is doing considerable consider-able improving on his hotel and store buildings. Orville Reeves, principal of the school, spent the week end in Hurricane. Hurri-cane. Judge Thos. Maloney left for California Calif-ornia Sunday on a business trip. |
