Show FRUIT GROWERS MEET TO GDN9DER THINGS A meeting of those interested in fruit growing and truck farming was held at 4 p. m. last Sunday. The meeting was called by Jos. T .Atkin who explained its object poor returns re-turns from the farm necessitating a change. On motion Jos. T. Atkin was elected elect-ed chairman of the meeting with W. A. Whitehead secretary. The chairman said he had conferred confer-red with Mr. Fank Barber, the owner of the Dixie Nursey, who had promised promis-ed the best prices on trees to those wishing to purchase. The chairman advised community purchases. Mr. Atkin advised organization of the fruit growers, planting trees, growing vegetables for the early markets, and plowing up some of the lucerne and planting trees instead. Growing vegetables between newly planted trees was also recommended. Considerable discussion as to best procedure for bringing land into fruit and vegetable bearing ensued, and also what best to plant for commercial commer-cial production so that children might have employment. Bishop James McArthur proposed that the chairman appoint a committee commit-tee of five to make investigation as to the best kind of trees to plant and to take the initative' in perfecting an organization. The motion was carried car-ried and the chairman appointed the following as the committee: James McArthur, John Schmutz, F. G. Miles and Albert E. Miller. This committee was later unanimously increased in-creased to six members to include Jed Fawcett. The committee was authorized to call a meeting when ready to report. The meeting was very well attended attend-ed and much enthusiasm was manifest. |
